Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced that the government is intentionally selling serviced land at a financial loss as part of its broader strategy to promote homeownership and build generational wealth among Antiguans and Barbudans.

During a weekend radio broadcast on Pointe FM, Browne disclosed that the government is purchasing land at approximately \$7 per square foot and investing an additional \$6 per square foot in infrastructure, including roads and underground utilities.

However, these fully serviced plots are being sold to citizens for as low as \$8 per square foot.

“This is a deliberate move to empower our people economically,” Browne said. “Even though the government’s total cost is around \$13 per square foot, we’re absorbing the difference to ensure that locals can afford quality land.”

The prime minister encouraged citizens to take advantage of what he described as a rare opportunity to secure valuable property, warning that failure to act could result in prime real estate being acquired by foreign buyers.

He also pushed back against critics who have demanded lower land prices, arguing that expectations of \$5 per square foot were unrealistic given the government’s upfront investment.

“We are subsidising these lots for the benefit of our people,” Browne said. “If we want to build national wealth and resilience, we must encourage ownership and investment in real estate.”

The initiative is part of the ABLP administration’s broader policy to expand access to land and housing while supporting economic mobility across the country.

  1. You my friend have the power to prevent those lands from going to foreign buyers, some things should be exclusive to Antiguan born (my opinion) or maybe it might be a well disguised plan to sell to a select few

    • How does he prevent this when the foreigners are buying private lands? Locals want to spend their money on cars and phones so if I am approached by a non national who has the funds to pay me, who do you think I will give it to? A local who can’t even buy sweetie or someone who can pay me? Money doesn’t have a nationality. If locals want land they should get their priorities in order.

  2. Open up Barbuda man….I want a piece of beachfront ocean view to buy over there!!! What happen?? Antiguans not good enough to own Barbuda lands but they can own mine?

  3. What half ass information is this? Where do you go to apply, what documents are needed? Do you need to have a letter from your parlimentry representative to verify your a ABLP supporter to get a piece to buy? although your a BORN Antiguan. Let see what become of this hmmm

  4. Is this your way of apologizing for all of your unkind words? Anyway, I’ll take a plot. Where do I apply?

  5. OK, so the government is buying the land from the government, to sell to the people. Antigua isn’t a real place.

It’s business, from $5 per square feet to $8

  6. I am interested in buying land (s) right now. To make this possible, I want to purchase at fair market value. Urgently. In Antigua and Barbuda.

  7. Of course, $5.00 per square ft is unreasonable. I’m thankful for the $8.00 a sqft. I want to know where this land is and how can I apply.

  8. Lair liar pants on fire!!!
Teacher Percy say if you tell a lie you going to hell as soon as you die……..
Please Gassy tell me where those lands are available.
I don’t want you telling Gaston A Browne so he can buy all and flip it.
Let me get a plot before you tell him where those lands are available.
    Oh my!!!
Even if you don’t tell him a Gaston A Browne already knows.
Which one really knows and which one doesn’t?
So why are you now offering those concessionary prices to us?
Why didn’t you offer it at Dunbars?
Who grabbed all the lands at Dunbars?
Are you offering us that concessionary price to run us away from the beaches and city?
    Haaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
    I catch you!!!!!!

  9. If accurate, lots being sold for as low as $8 per sq. ft. is really a deal but you must understand, these will not be in prime locations that the government can sell to the private sector for a lot more. Still, if I was a first time buyer or wanted something newer, I would reach out to the Ministry of Housing and Works and ask them for more information.

  10. Why Barbudans have the right to purchase Land in Antigua, but not Antiguan have right to purchase Land in Barbuda?
Patetic..Let’s act respectfully..If you dont allow any Antiguan citizen to purchase a plot over there..Then you are Ban to purchase any plot over here.
