This year’s Grand National at Aintree is set to be one of the strongest renewals of the world-famous steeplechase. It features the first three horses from the race in 2022, including the defending champion Noble Yeats.

Those who dominated the marathon contest in Liverpool also face new challengers this year, including winners from the 2023 Cheltenham Festival.

Noble Yeats Among Favorites to Score Again

If Noble Yeats can win the Grand National in 2023, he will become the third horse since 1974 to prevail in back-to-back years. The Irish chaser has been in good form this year, with wins coming at Wexford and Aintree.

The 2022 hero is +800 in the bet on Grand National market for the feature contest at Aintree. He has just one horse ahead of him in the betting, which indicates he is a leading player once again.

The Grand National results 2023 will pick up sports headlines around the world, and should Noble Yeats score again, he will be compared with some of the greatest staying chasers of all time, such as Red Rum and Tiger Roll. Those two horses were able to win the race more than once.

Noble Yeats will have to do it with a different jockey this year as Sam Waley-Cohen, who rode him to victory in 2022, retired after the success. Sam Bowen is expected to take up the ride at Aintree.

Any Second Now Faces Tougher Task

For the second consecutive year, Any Second Now finished in the placings in the Grand National in 2022. It was an excellent performance from Ted Walsh’s runner as once again he proved his stamina over the 4m2½f.

In what will be his third appearance in the Grand National, the 11-year-old has been handed the highest weight allocation this time around. He will need to carry 11st 12lb. No horse has prevailed in this race with that much weight since Red Rum in 1974.

The 2022 runner-up travels to Aintree this year on the back of a success at Navan on his last appearance. He won a Grade Two chase by seven lengths at the Irish course.

Delta Work Should Be Full of Confidence

Irish trainer Gordon Elliott knows all about success in the Grand National. He has won the race three times, with victories coming in 2007, 2018, and 2019. If Delta Work finishes two places better than he did in 2022, Elliott will lift the trophy for a fourth time.

For the second straight year, Delta Work won the Cross Country Chase at the Cheltenham Festival earlier this season. He beat former Grade One winner Galvin in that race. Those two horses are set to face each other again at Aintree.

The handicapper has eased Delta Work 5lb this year in the Grand National which will make his task easier. He will be bidding to become the fourth consecutive Irish-trained horse to win the race.

This year’s Grand National will take place on the third and final day of a three-day meeting at Aintree. A full field of 40 runners is expected to line up for the most unique steeplechase of the season in jumps racing.
