In celebration of Community Health Improvement Week, Jermaine Edwards, community advocate in St. John’s Rural South will be partnering with Dr. Damion Gordon of Blue Haven Medical Center to host a FREE Community Health Fair and Block Party. The event will be held on Saturday June 8th at the Nut Grove Basketball Court from 4 – 8pm.

The main goal of the Health Fair will be to increase awareness of many common health issues, through a broad spectrum of screenings, wellness discussions and fun family activities.

It will give community members the chance to take control of their health by focusing on healing their mind, body and spirit.

“When it comes to a healthier body and mind, prevention is critical. Learning what to look for and what changes to make, can help lower those risks. By taking a holistic approach to wellness we can simultaneously address the physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual components of health,” Dr Gordon said.

The Community Health Fair will raise awareness of many preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of many diseases.

Some of the services that will be offered include: Blood Pressure Checks, Cholesterol Screening, Height/Weight/BMI Checks, Skin Exams and more.

“In the absence of a clinic in St. John’s Rural South these services will be well received by residents in our community. But we also recognize that it takes more than just clinical services to thrive and we have invited a number of partners to assist in providing invaluable resources to our vibrant community. Together, we can make a positive impact and empower each other to achieve our health and wellness goals,” said Jermaine Edwards, Community Advocate.

In addition to health screenings, the event will feature Socarobics and fitness challenges with Dancerboy Shan of 𝘎𝘳𝘰𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘐𝘵 𝘙𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘍𝘪𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴. Attendees can win prizes, free water and Gatorade will be provided and food vendors will be available. The Community Health Fair is free and open to the public.
