A report of the break-in was made to the police by the Upper Gambles
proprietor of the South Street business.

Reports say that officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID)
went to the scene, where it was discovered that the intruders had gained
entry through a southern burglar-barred glass window.

Apparently, they had used an implement to cut open the locks on the burglar
bar and then used a hard object to break the glass.

After entry was gained, the perpetrators stole a number of food items and an
undisclosed sum of cash from two cash registers – and also removed one
register.

Reportedly, a search was carried out in the surrounding areas for the stolen
items, but without success.

However, the police discovered a stone inside the
building and it was retrieved and taken to St. John’s Police Station for
investigation purposes.

This offence is alleged to have occurred sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 6
a.m. on May13.
