WIC: The Antigua Cruise Port received its third inaugural call for the 2023/2024 cruise season this week. On Thursday, the island welcomed Explora I, which docked at the Nevis Street Pier for the first time.

The cruise brought over 450 passengers to the destination, who disembarked to explore the island. Some of the passengers hired tour guides to visit the best locations in Antigua.

As the cruise visited the island, Antigua Cruise Port’s Leasing & Marketing Officer, Jessica Russell and other tourism officials engaged in a plaque exchange ceremony onboard, officially welcoming the vessel to the country’s shores.

It is worth noting that Explora I will make six more calls to Antigua during the winter season. The nation is witnessing an amazing season, with several guests disembarking and exploring it.

One of the couples, Dave Stonecipher and Lynee Stonecipher, was also part of the Explora I’s journey and visited Antigua. The couple took to Facebook to share their experience and was stunned by the beauty of Antigua.

“We woke to a beautiful morning in St John’s Bay, Antigua. We docked next to the MSC Explora and discovered it’s one of the new luxury hydrogen-powered ships. Very Nice,” said Dave.

As Dave and Lynee disembarked, they hired a local tour guide to take them and two other couples to several places on the island. During their island journey, they visited the oldest Anglican Church, went to the countryside, and witnessed prominent buildings such as the Governor’s Office and the Parliament House.

“The American University of Antigua, College of Medicine is just down the road from the stadium. We were shocked to find out that, by far, most of the people who attend the College of Medicine are not from the island. Over 50% are American. The main studies there are infectious disease and speciality courses in dermatology,” said Dave.

“Our driver took us to one of the private beaches primarily used by people living in Hodges Bay. It’s considered one of the nicest beaches on the island, and we ate lunch at a restaurant on the beach before going back to the cruise,” he further said.
