Dutch Team Wins Atlantic Rowing Challenge

The first team to complete the 2018 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge arrived at the Nelsons Dockyard last evening.

The four-man team of the Dutch Atlantic Four is comprised of Bart Adema, Erik Koning, David de Bruijn and Marcel Ates.

The winners completed the “World’s Toughest Row” in 34 days, 12 hours and 9 minutes.

As part of the challenge the men are raising funds for two charities; Cancer research organization, Kika and Precious Plastic; a group working to eradicate plastic pollution.

Meantime, the four-member female team representing Antigua & Barbuda is expected to complete the race on or around January 30.

Team Antigua – The Island Girls is just over 1000 NM away from the island at position 13 in all teams and position 11in teams of four.

The team members are Elvira Bell, Christal Clashing, Samara Emmanuel and Kevinia Francis.

Persons are being ask to donate to the teams chosen charity, Cottage of Hope, which offers short-and-long term residency to girls who are abused, neglected or orphaned.
