China Media Group has donated video cameras and media equipment to the national broadcasting service of Antigua and Barbuda. The formal handover was held in the capital Saint John’s on Friday. Here’s more.

Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne was joined at the ceremony by Foreign Minister Paul Chet Greene and Information, Communications Minister Melford Walter Nicholas, and China’s Ambassador Zhang Yanling.

A donation agreement was signed between the government of the Carribean island nation and China Media Group, together with a formal letter to hand over the donated equipment.

Representatives of China Media Group and local journalists were also in attendance.

GASTON BROWNE Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda “Let me take this opportunity to thank China Media Group for giving us this important gift. In January of this year we visited China.

ABS (Antigua and Barbara Broadcasting Service) made this request. Although time is very short. They will do their best to help us build capacity for the Fourth Conference (Small Island States). We are very grateful.”

The donation arrived as Antigua and Barbuda prepared to host the Fourth International Conference on Small Islands Developing States this month.

Antigua and Barbuda’s Foreign Affairs Minister Paul Chet Greene said the assistance has enabled the country to make substantial improvements in media technology and has facilitated cultural and people-to-people exchanges with China.

Information Minister Melford Walter Nicholas said he welcomes colleagues from China Media Group and other Chinese media organizations to visit Antigua and Barbuda, conduct interviews and reports.

ZHANG YANLING Chinese Ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda “Media cooperation is a very important part of China-Antigua relations. This donation of CMG equipment will greatly promote media cooperation between the two countries, and will improve media reporting capabilities and effectiveness. In particular, it will play a very important role in covering the Fourth International Conference on Small Island States.”

The donation from China Media Group includes digital switchers, video cameras and other broadcast equipment.

The Antigua and Barbuda Broadcasting Service is the country’s national television and radio broadcaster.

It was founded in 2000 and operates television and radio stations, as well as new media platforms.

  1. Do you trust the phone or tablet or computer (which was either made in China or contains Chinese parts) that you used to write this ridiculously racist and rude comment? The clown of the day award goes to you!

  2. It’s seems like you made the western main stream media manipulate your thinking, so you are unable to think for yourself

  3. As an independent Nation you shouldn’t be taking gift from anyone..if anyone/country wants to donate anything, let them donate it to the private sector or many of the none profit organizations out there.

ABS is a state owned news media, and any gift passing through the hands of politicians, especially from the likes of these world powers, has open up the doors of entrapment.

Have we not learned from the many who have come to this small nation and tried, and therefore succeeded in these same entrapment schemes.

The likes of Allen Sanford, the crypto kid, the sleezy Nigerians, the Chinese Dude that just got charged the other day, and the many others who have tried and ensnared us in their givings.

It’s never a good thing when you take gifts from people, because nothing is for free..so this makes me scratch my head with this government always handing out their hands.

A economic Powerhouse go and buy their own stuff, not look to be gifted.

More shenanigans Gatson Browne and his merry men are up to.

  4. Name to be changed from ABS to CBS,Chinese Broadcasting Service. The Pirates are coming. Oh no,they are already there in Antigua. They are being enabled by that person with the STACHE.FOR in my opinion,he has never seen a $ he did not like.

  5. I trust absolutely nothing from China, because they are not genuine, the government has to pay back every single thing they gave to antigua, in land and exemption from all taxes, while we have to work our butt off to survive. They don’t help, is tit for tot.
