Central Health Board Initiates Mosquito Control Program in Antigua

As a crucial element of this initiative, the Vector Control Unit is set to conduct fogging operations in various areas from January 8th to 12th, 2024.

Fogging Schedule and Locations:

The fogging operations will take place twice daily, at 4:30 am and 4:30 pm, on Tuesday through Friday. The targeted areas include Lower Gambles, East Bus Station, Carnival Gardens, Clare Hall, Johnsons Village, Upper Gambles, Grammar School, Sutherlands, Holberton Hospital Compound, Police Headquarters, T.N. Kirnon, Government Complex, and the Fire Station in the morning session. In the afternoon, Fitches Creek, Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP), and Paynters are slated for fogging.

Important Information for Residents:

The Central Health Board has issued several important guidelines for residents to ensure the success of the Mosquito Control Program:

  1. Respiratory Precautions: Individuals with respiratory illnesses are strongly advised to take necessary precautions during fogging operations.
  2. Motorist Caution: Motorists are urged to exercise caution when navigating through the fogging areas to ensure the safety of both residents and drivers.
  3. Weather Contingencies: In the event of adverse weather conditions, such as rain or high winds, fogging operations will be temporarily suspended. Operations will resume on the next available day until all scheduled areas are covered.
  4. Community Cooperation: Residents are encouraged to play an active role in mosquito prevention by eliminating potential breeding grounds on their premises. Additionally, taking personal measures to protect against mosquito bites is crucial.
