Complaints about bed bugs at His Majesty’s Prison surfaced in court on Wednesday when a Canadian man accused of importing more than EC$200,000 worth of cannabis asked a judge to be transferred to another cell.

Semand Vivan Shammo Aljndo, 23, who has been on remand since March after being deemed a flight risk, raised the issue directly with the judge during his court appearance. He was advised to discuss the matter with his attorney, Michael Archibald.

Aljndo faces five drug-related charges following his arrest at V.C. Bird International Airport on March 21, 2026. Police said officers attached to the Narcotics Department, K-9 Unit and Customs Enforcement Unit discovered 26 vacuum-sealed packages of cannabis weighing 26 pounds inside a suitcase allegedly belonging to him after he arrived on an Air Canada flight from Toronto.

  1. Lmao 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 he lucky a nar MASKITTA 😆 🤣

  2. Should’ve thought about that before you decided to become a drug smuggler.

Let this serve as a deterrent and to change your ways.

  3. Regardless what your crime is, the prison situation ought to be better and more humane. The presence of bedbugs in prison is a significant indicator of dire, inhumane, conditions. Such infestations are frequent in aging, overcrowded, and poorly maintained institutions, which create prime breeding grounds for pests. It is full-time for 1735 to be bulldozed and make way for a modern prison facility.

  4. Is that picture above real? If so,how could anyone use such a nasty looking unhygienic toilet. Not even an animal would use that. That prison was built in 1735 should be demolished. Not fit for freaking humans.

  5. So let’s get this straight HMP in Antigua was built in 1735 and uses out house in this day and age wow wow wow

  6. Better enuh send back the man home …. Them politicians

  7. That comes with the All-Inclusive package Sir. Enjoy your stay at the Famous Red Door Hotel

  8. This Canadian is likely to get reduced sentence because of the prison conditions that he brought to the attention of the judge. The judge cannot ignore his plea.

Tax payers are the ones that will compensate him for the horrible conditions he was held under.

    He knows his rights…..

  9. The man is still INNOCENT until proven guilty. Torture is not part of our penal system. There are too many bloodthirsty and vengeful readers out there. Look how many are saying… “serves him right”.
Is weed we talking about here. He did not rob, kill or rape anybody, so why wish torture by bedbugs on the innocent man?
