Cabinet Orders Meeting to Address Nurses’ Concerns Over Midwifery Board Representation

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health was invited to Cabinet to address the issue which caused about 20 nurses and their supporters to picket the Ministry of Health on Tuesday, and the Cabinet on Wednesday.

 It appears that the Principal Nursing Officer (PNO), believing that a place on the Midwifery Board is assigned to that office, objects to being left out.

The Cabinet examined CAP 281, the Midwifery Act, and agreed that the PNO is not one of the offices mentioned in the Act for inclusion on the Board.

The law was last amended in 1989.

Nevertheless, Cabinet has asked the Permanent Secretary to convene a meeting with the PNO, the Attorney General and others in order to reach a compromise so that the nurses can get back to caring for patients.

    This bit of ‘News appears more than ‘…Half-Empty.’
    True that no mention was made of the ‘PNO’ as a member of the ‘…Midwifery Board,’ but the darn Statutory provision states:

    ‘…And two other members appointed by the Governor General’ [Section 3 (1) (d): Midwifery Act: Chapter 281].

    QUESTION:

    ‘…Who says the darn ‘PNO,’ could not be ‘ONE’ of the ‘…Two other Persons?’

    Well, if it was not the ‘Minister’ himself, he would be a darn ‘Fool,’ to allow anyone to invite ‘…UNNECESSARY AND STUPID TROUBLE’ for himself.

    Yes in the Cabinet debrief, MaxWorst wanted to make the p.n.o sound like the rogue, but Molwyn is awful . Just awful !!! and I am so glad that you have highlighted Section 3 (1) (d): Midwifery Act: Chapter 281

    When the Cabinet allows molwyn to do as he pleases at 1. solid waste 2. cbh 3. medicaldivision 4. mbs 5. slbmc 6. publicservicecommissiin, they only help to destroy this country.

    The issue (this time) was overt and the obvious misgivings were made public, but so many issues have been concealed and so many professionals have been victims. CABINET DO BETTER.
