The issue between the Police Welfare Association and Acting Police Commissioner Atlee Rodney have been laid to rest, according to Atlee Rodney.

Late November, the Police Welfare Association was displeased with the dismissive, disrespectful manner displayed by Rodney.

A closed-door meeting to address the issue, with the Attorney General, the Commissioner of Police and the Welfare executive and its members, was set for November 25, 2019.

However, the planned meeting was postponed by Steadroy Benjamin, Attorney General, what occurred on November 25th seems to have set the stage for further industrial action.

Acting Welfare Association chair, Corporal Marilyn Harris pleaded with the Commissioner to take a few questions from the membership, but Rodney refused, as he headed out the door, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Albert Wade.

Before Rodney left, however, he expressed that he was not keen on the media being privy to the content of meeting.

However Rodney now explains that the whole situation may have escalated due to simple misunderstandings.

“There was some misinformation and some issues that probably some persons just didn’t have the true picture as to what really was happening. There was never confrontation or conflict with the welfare association, as I have said over the years is that the interest of the welfare and the interest of the office of the commission is basically the same” Rodney explained.

The Acting Commissioner also explained that the situation in which he left the meeting was also misunderstood.

“It wasn’t a matter of that I walked out. I think I was in that meeting for quite a while. I explained to them that this was an internal matter and I don’t think the press had any business to be in there and it was at that time, I left.” said Rodney.

  1. Entittled ARROGANCE isnt a misunderstanding….

They wouldnt have let media into theissues IF they issues werent address timely n professionally…..

    AGAIN ARROGANCE ENTITLEMENT.

  2. They wouldnt have let the media & public know about internal turmoil.

If their concerns were professionaly & timely address.

  3. The continuehf arrogance of senior officers is sickening. They forget they were once junior ranks with the same grievances. Seems that as soon as they get in senior ranks they forget all the struggles of the lower ranks and use their position to act like slave drivers and are truly heartless to grievances brought before them.
