Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda, Sir Rodney Williams, shed light on the government’s plans for redevelopment, with a particular emphasis on addressing the challenges posed by the unused car park at the top of High Street, known as The Sunshine Hub.

Governor General Williams provided insights into the government’s inherited failures and successes, detailing the efforts to rectify existing issues and transform underutilized structures into valuable assets for the community.

Central to the Governor General’s address was the government’s acquisition of The Sunshine Hub, a car park purchased for a small fraction of the cost incurred over 15 years ago for a previous construction on the City’s green space.

Despite successful attempts at fixing most inherited failures, The Sunshine Hub presented a unique set of challenges that the government aims to tackle in the near future.

Governor General Williams revealed that the Ministry of Works had enlisted engineers and experts to examine The Sunshine Hub, intending to make recommendations for its rehabilitation.

Unfortunately, the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic diverted resources to more pressing needs, temporarily delaying the government’s plans for transformation.

As the country’s revenues show signs of recovery, Governor General Williams conveyed the government’s commitment to revisiting The Sunshine Hub project.

The intention is to convert the unfinished structure into a more useful space for the community, aligning with broader efforts to enhance infrastructure and public amenities.

The Sunshine Hub car park emerges as a focal point in Antigua and Barbuda’s ambitious redevelopment plans, as outlined by Governor General Sir Rodney Williams.

  1. Pure lies and deflection once more by this useless ABLP government.

I attended a meeting – attended by Gaston Browne – with other concerned Antiguans about the unsightly and unused carpark in town in 2014 (when I was a delusional ABLP supporter), where promises were made to resolve one way or the other.

Now 9-10 years later, now more words and a lack of action.

HOW HAVE THE ABLP HOODWINKED SO MANY FOR SO LONG?

    HOW???

One questioner ask Prime Minister Browne about completion, repair or demolition

  2. When they decide what to do with the car park, hope they take into account the chronic parking situation in St. John’s. This was the need for the car park in the first place.

  3. Turn it into another university!!! Call it “Max Hearst centre for lying and spinning”. After all, when he dies ABLP will need young ones to fry the brains of Antiguans in order to stay in power.
Good grief! On any given day thousands of cars park for free South of the car park. If they paid just one dollar, this govt would not be talking about taxing us. But, bad mindedness and spite are the hallmarks of this govt hence they can’t become politically mature, in the interest of Antiguans.
If we don’t get rid of these guys, they will just leave it, then find some lying excuse to demolish it, not caring about the millions of our money gone down the drain again. Of course they will still find a lying way to still blame UPP
