AT&LU Engages Dominican Republic Community in Townhall Meeting

The Antigua and Barbuda Trades & Labour Union (AT&LU), represented by its President, Cde. Bernard de Nully, took part in a significant Townhall Meeting aimed at addressing the concerns of the Dominican Republic community within Antigua and Barbuda. The meeting, held as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen relations and foster dialogue, brought together key figures from both the Dominican and local communities.

Among those present was Julio Naso, a well-respected pastor in the Dominican Republic community, who highlighted the importance of unity and support among migrant workers.

Wascar Feliz, Vice Consul for the Dominican Republic, also attended, offering insight into the services and assistance available to Dominican nationals in Antigua and Barbuda. His participation emphasized the government’s commitment to its citizens abroad, addressing issues that affect their well-being.

Alex de Jesus Martinez Tatis, President of the DOMINICANS WITH LABOUR group, underscored the collaboration between Dominican workers and local labor groups, including domestic and construction workers, who form a significant part of the workforce in Antigua and Barbuda. He lauded the AT&LU’s involvement and advocacy on behalf of migrant laborers, reinforcing the bond between both communities under the Labour Party banner.

The meeting served as a platform for discussing challenges faced by Dominican workers, including labor rights, social integration, and improving conditions for domestic and construction workers. Cde. Bernard de Nully affirmed AT&LU’s dedication to advocating for fair treatment and equal opportunities for all workers in Antigua and Barbuda, regardless of their nationality.

  1. The same treatment meted out to the Hatian population in the Dominican Republic by the Dominican Republic Government should be Meted out to them in every part on Earth. These people do not love Black people. Just imagine a child born in Dominica Republic by a Haitian is not considered a citizen, and cannot obtain Dominican citizenship. They must go to Haiti if they need a passport. If Haitians were lightskined they would have been trested differently. It’s a shame, and we the Black community in the Caribbean stand idle, teeth in tongue and don’t say a word.Shame on the Dominican Republic.Their main contribution in Carricom is to sell sex and open Bars.Shame on us.

  2. was WILMOTH DANIEL present to help with the interpretation? He seems to get along well with this nationality.

  3. Yet these people don’t integrate in our society, and form a significant part of it. They employ only their own and flock to our shores daily.

I wonder how many really contribute to the development here.

Anyway ALP has to give them what they want after all they help put them back in power.

  4. The Dominican Republican VOTE is the SWING VOTE, in Antigua & Barbuda’s General Elections. While there is a percentage of [them], the Dominican Republicans, that have the right(s), to claim Antiguan & Barbudan Citizenship, there is a percentage which MUST be regularised, but doing so, the others from the rest of the world will have to be regularised as well.

It’s complicated with the case of Antigua & Barbuda, since, when they started coming in droves from the late 1980’s, began doing the menial, cheap labour, #dutty_wuk which Antiguans with their #foolish pride and Barbudans mostly chillaxing under a tree, they were setting up BODEGAS, RUM SHOPS and James Bond Style #Pussy_Galore’s Parlour!
    Didn’t a politician convert a bus to an Island🌴_Tour #SKIN_OUT_Ms. Pussy_Galore Adventure?

Where were Antiguans then, channelling and dressing up like 🐧🦩🦩birds with heads under water looking for food?

Just like many of you Antiguans like to reference PARENTS for the tweens and teens negative attitudes and behaviors, WE ANTIGUANS need a mirror running from Hodges Bay to Curtain Bluff to take some good looks, at Our selves, be honest and do the necessary works to at least, control the very little which you seem to be in control of now.

  5. Reading some of the comments about individuals from the Dominican Republic living here is like hearing what some people in the UK said in the 1950’s and 60’s when the first Antiguans and other Caribbean nationals arrived in London. “England for the English!”. “We don’t want them here!”. “Deport these people!”. “Send them home!” It is disappointing to hear some Antiguans echo this type of sentiment towards others.

    Stay classy Antiguans.

  6. Be secretive. Information is for Antiguans interest…
