Antigua and Barbuda has agreed to ban the fishing of parrot fish

CABINET NOTES: The Parliament of Antigua and Barbuda will likely place a prohibition of sand exports in law in a phased approach, given the harm done to the environment by removal of sand in large quantities from Barbuda

An environmental expert gave an assessment on the quantum of sand removed over the past 50 years and the impossibility of continuing for even a short period; the expert addressed the impact of sand removal on fresh water aquafers (brackish water), sand dunes as high as 12 to 14 ft., and the harm to coral reefs (that reduce wave energy during storms and ground swells).

The Cabinet therefore agreed to ban the fishing of parrot fish which produce much of the sand that encases the 62 square miles of land of Barbuda.

  1. I don’t know how fisable this idea is. But the government may need to link up with Africa and import sand from 🤷🏿‍♀️the Sahara desert. That will solve the problem of getting sand to build for construction and stop taking sand from Barbuda. Just an idea

  2. Long overdue! Vegetarian or vegan is best! Leave the poor fish alone.

  3. After the ALP grabbers siphon more than US $300 mil. in sand from Barbuda, and PLH doing the rest , they only now find it fit to call a halt to the practice.

  4. I eat that fish in Antigua fried. Me call um CHUBB FISH. Why you people in Cabinet do not stop eating fatty foods? I have watched you people over the years blown up like the GOODYEAR BLIMPS.
