Ian Hughes has been formally designated as Antigua and Barbuda’s latest Supervisor of Elections, filling the void left by Dame Lorna Simon’s retirement.

Tasked with managing an upcoming by-election, Hughes’ appointment gained Senate approval, with tributes to both Dame Lorna and himself.

Senate President Alincia Williams-Grant praised Dame Lorna’s leadership, while Senator Samantha Marshall emphasized expectations for Hughes to ensure fair and democratic elections.

Hughes, who worked his way up through the ranks over two decades, expressed readiness for his role and contemplated electoral reforms.

His first challenge involves overseeing the by-election between Kelvin Simon and Senator Dwayne George.(Observer)

  1. This dude declared that all elections conducted by the Electoral Commission were flawless. He was either very naïve, or auditioning for his new appointment.

The Dawg said shortly after that he stacked constituencies to help others win for him. We are still waiting for response to this claim from this dude.

    • @Lorna..The opposition senators all lauded not only MR. Hughes, but also his predecessor. Oppsition members pointed out how helpful Hughes has been with one stating that if all public servants were like him, things would be great.
