90-Year Old Author Returns to Anguilla, the Land of her Birth, to Promote Her Book

After the successful launch of her book, entitled “Mirie’s Magic Recipe: Loving, Leading, Legacy,” 90-year old author, Miriam Samuel is embarking on her “Legacy Book Tour.” She will “hit the road” to visit some of the locations referenced in her book and to share her passion, knowledge and life lessons through a social media campaign.

This active seniorpreneur will allow readers to experience some of the major settings in her book. Although Antigua is the main location in the book, the story also references her experiences in Anguilla, Barbados and the United Kingdom. The first stop on Miriam’s book tour will be Anguilla, the land of her birth. The story begins during the Great Depression and is influenced by socio-economic, cultural and political struggles of that historical era.

Mirie will join residents in Anguilla as they celebrate 50 years of Carnival under the theme “Homecoming.”  She will connect with local genealogist Dr. Timothy Hodge to research her family tree by reviewing historical records, maps, and by tapping into the local folklore. She will also connect with award winning chef Kelston Connor, to learn about the island’s food history, and visit local gardens and churches to better understand what life was like for her ancestors. The trip will culminate with a “meet the author & book signing” event on August 23rd at Coral Reef Bookstore in the Valley, from 10am – 12 noon.

“I’m excited to take my readers and followers on a virtual sojourn to experience my story on a deeper level. By sharing our family stories we can help to build a bridge between our history and our future. I hope that my book will inspire others to reconnect with their roots and to tell their story,” Mirie said.

In September, Mirie heads to the United Kingdom where she will be honored at two events in England and Wales. She will also host “Reading on Location” events that will be shared on social media.

A veteran teacher for 40 years, Miriam Samuel taught in nine schools in four parishes in Antigua. As an avid gardener, she has created more than 90 agri-products that offer a sense of nostalgia through flavors, aromas and medicinal properties. These include food, beverages, essential oils, soaps, confectionery and nutritional supplements.

The book is not only a memoir of her life but also gives readers advice on how to leave a legacy. It provides a delightful narrative of Miriam’s experiences as an ordinary woman who has lived an extraordinary life filled with trials and triumphs. The author utilizes many metaphoric links to cooking, gardening and travel to impart valuable life lessons and at the end of each chapter, she shares recipes to nourish the mind, body, and soul.
