The death of a young soldier – 48 hours after he was involved in a traffic accident – has thrown his family and the Antigua & Barbuda Defence Force into grief.
Private Rayaundre “Ray” Carbon of Grays Farm died in the hospital on Wednesday, August 17, two days after he was critically injured in a crash at the intersection of Factory and American Roads.
Reports say that Carbon was riding a motorcycle from west to east on Factory Road early Monday when he attempted to overtake a car. At the same time, however, the driver of that vehicle was turning right onto American Road, and a collision occured.
Carbon was rushed to the hospital by the Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
Expressions of condolences have flooded social media since the news of his death was announced.
This is the second road death in the past eight days; and should a post-mortem exam conclude that Carbon’s death was the result of the accident, then this would be the seventh road fatality for 2022.
Last Tuesday night, August 9, English Harbour resident Ti-Jon James, 22, had a fatal traffic accident on the Sir Sidney Walling Highway in the area known as “Dog Farm.”

Did any of these guys suffer head injuries and needed a neurosurgeon like Jamoya Browne?
No. Are you one thought
This is really sad … I must say a lot of people don’t use there turn signals… it’s really upsetting…..
Were you there to know whether the driver had on the indicator or not?
Only scouts overtake at an intersection.
Antigua people drive like pure ash holes. Who dead just bury.
