Young Destroyer Crowned Calypso Monarch 2023

KING YOUNG DESTROYER IS THE 2023 CALYPSO MONARCH
King Young Destroyer reigns supreme in the 2023 Carib Beer Calypso Monarch competition. He defeated nine competitors with his renditions of ‘Simply the Best’ and ‘Respect Your Own’.
The 1st runner position went to King Zacari while King Fyah captured the 2nd runner up spot.
Young Destroyer’s song ‘Respect Your Own’ was also adjudged Best Social Commentary while Most Improved Calypsonian went to Lip No Stick.

  2. Congrats young destroyer. Your song Respect Your Own, shows the hypocrisy some hide from admitting. Alister,, Lovell full of it. Unlike for eg. Sir Viv they can’t walk the talk. Watch persons who described themselves as Pan Africans, being a part of a march to have same Africans victimized. Lovell was giving speeches where he was fear mongering. Then after some died at sea, watch them with what was clearly fake tears. YD, keep calling them out

    • Before you condemn the smugglers and murderers, you are trying to justify their wicked deeds. While they fool you, keep on fooling the others. Everybody else knows exactly what happened and what the intentions were.

  3. That show last night was not well organized in my opinion.The whole atmosphere was poor at best.The attendance was very, very, small. The man who won came on stage in a RED suit. I really did not see him as a winner. I do not know what those judges saw or heard. What they were listening to last night.That art form of calypso is gone, to the graveyard.

  5. When I heard (approximately 5:30am) that it was Young Destroyer who won the Monarch Competition and one of his songs said that after 41 years we are better than the rest in the Caribbean and yada yada yada……… I smiled to myself.

    I looked out my window and saw the uncollected garbage that should have been collected yesterday and I said to myself ‘yea right minion’.

  7. Yes Yes king 👑 Young Destroyer finally got the crown 👑 as Antigua Calypso Monarch. You deserved it . You went to Trinidad and beat everybody and only now they recognize you. That why they say a king have no honor in his own country.

  9. @tenman. First, congratulations to Young Destroyer. Now, I have serious concerns with these political songs- NOT SOCIAL COMMENTARIES- being given the kind of prominence they are given. They are like Swallow’s, “party in Space”, pure fantasy but unlike Swallow’s song, the people who sing them and others like you, and Max Hearst; who know better celebrate them. My concern though is how they seek to DUMB DOWN our society by: substituting lies for truths; simplifying complex issues to make them seem like just simple grievances by some etc.
    Monarch Young Destroyer now goes to Anguilla to sing these Political and ABLP songs to a neutral audience who is well acquainted with the truth, having had the spill over of Gaston’s “popoo” in St Kitts and the same Anguilla. After listening to the winning songs in Antigua they are expected to come away with the feeling of what a DUMB set of people we must be in Antigua to allow such nonsense to actually win a crown.
    My prediction: HE WON’T EVEN PLACE.
