YOLO Treasure Hunt Teaches Youth Valuable Financial Lessons

0

The Youth Opportunities, Lessons and Outcomes (YOLO) Summit received high praise for its innovative approach to financial education.

The conference was held on Sept 23 & 24 at Julees located at the corner of Cross and Tanner Streets.

It was staged by SamuelFields Consulting Group (SFCG), a group of financial wellness experts in collaboration with Pockets Change, a US based group of finance educators.

The YOLO Treasure Hunt was one of the highlights on the conference agenda.

This challenging team-building exercise took participants on a journey to put their financial knowledge to use, while exploring St. John’s through a business lens.

This activity was designed as a fun, safe, unique, and engaging way to teach important lessons about money. and provide a chance to win exciting prizes.

As part of a presentation that addressed “The Five Money Musts,” facilitated by SFCG’s CEO, Megan Samuel-Fields, participants were provided with clues and riddles based on key financial concepts.

This interactive expedition was designed to improve collaboration, communication, creativity, and problem-solving.

Teams comprising 2 to 4 participants were given 1 hour to race through the streets of St. John’s to find the treasure by following clues and solving riddles hidden around town.

They were strategically placed at businesses, landmarks and other public locations within a designated area — between Cross St and Thames St and Church St and Tanner St (CTCT).

“The Treasure Hunt was a way to give participants a mental and physical break after two intensive days of financial instruction.

At SFCG we use gamification as a tool to enable learning. It increases engagement while incentivizing healthy financial habits.

By making money a fun and interactive topic, the youth can improve their skills and chart a better financial future,” said SFCG CEO, Megan Samuel-Fields.
