Four employees of the National School Meals Kitchen in Coolidge were injured in an accident and had to hospitalised this morning.

Minister of Education Michael Browne told reporters that the leg of one of the stove units broke, causing the hot contents on the stove to topple and fall on the workers. Minister Browne described it as a freak accident.

“I reached out to the minister of health, and got the assurance from the prime ministers that the persons who were injured, we will do everything we can to ensure that they are properly taken care of,” Browne said.

He added that the equipment at the kitchen is checked regularly and updated.

“The maintenance person who generally comes on call to check on the equipment, he is going to do a full assessment over the weekend.”

Browne said, for now, he plans to isolate the stove which broke and continue operations rather than completely shutting down the entire kitchen as students across the country are depending on them for nutritious lunches.
