Work Underway At The Margetson Ward To Be A Quarantine And Isolation Ward

Major renovation work is currently underway at the former Holberton Hospital as the Minister of Health confirmed recently that the area which once housed the Margetson Ward is being transformed for a specific purpose.
“We are rehabilitating a section of the Margetson Ward and the purpose of doing that is better than the money we are spending. We believe that it is safer for the people of Antigua and Barbuda that if we were to have a case of Coronavirus it is better for us to have a specialized area to treat that person rather than to have that person at the Mount St John Medical Center.
He added that when the facility is fully completed, it will be the sole center that will handle all the COVID19 issues.
“At the end of the day we might be spending about half a million dollars fixing up the Margetson Ward, not only for suspected cases of Coronavirus but also as a site for quarantine. We want to consolidate all that activity in one place. It is better for management and it is a better arrangement to isolated suspected cases rather than have it in our sole hospital.
As to the timeline for completion, this is what the Health Minister had to say. “I can say with a level of certainty that in 2 weeks we will have a special place set aside at the holberton hospital site to deal with anyone with the symptoms of Coronavirus.

  1. Amazingly, the same work was done on the same facility to prepare for possible Ebola cases. I wonder if it’s the same Bendals outfit has been contracted to do the same work again…

  2. I am happy to hear that the buildings that hosted the wards of Holberton hospital are now considered to be put to good use….. I think that the entire compound should be made into a medical facility….
