  1. My condolences to the family and friends.
Just wonder why she was not brought to MSJMC

  2. So Sad! My condolences go out to the family……. Some years ago we had similar situation with a jet ski operator getting into a freak accident with a swimmer. As a tourist resort island, where the beaches are one of the main attraction for our tourists, perhaps we need a law in place that areas where people swim (perhaps 150 meter from the shore) should be considered forbidden areas for propelled operated machines. If such machines need to come near to the shore, the engines should be shut off within the 150 meters perimeter. Swimmers then will be at their own risk who choose to go beyond the 150 meters.

    • They were lifelong boaters. I just don’t understand…..and am heartbroken for them.

  3. The messed up thing is swimmers expect the boat captain’s to see them in the water but it’s almost impossible to see a swimmer especially if the sun glare is very bright on the water as well as not swimming with an indicator like a life jacket or a colourful float to alert vessels from at least a 100 yards so therefore you’ll end up in these situations! The best thing is when you are swimming especially in an area of boats the best thing to do is always lift up your head when you hear an engine until it passes you or don’t swim in the area at all! Word to the wise but condolences to the family if this tragic loss but let this be a lesson to all swimmers be aware!

      • This is an ignorant comment. She was swimming within feet of the stern of her boat. The man who murdered her was traveling at a high rate of speed, was not looking where he was going, and was criminally negligent in how close he came to her boat. He even had his wife in the with him. There is no excuse for them failing to see her. She was wearing fins and bright clothing. Do not blame the victim or comment on things you know nothing about.

        • Sorry but you are trolling this! You were not there you did not see it. She was in dark blue no bright colours at all. The dingy was not going fast, she was in a blind spot mid Chanel 40 yards from her yacht and the yacht opposite. The investigation proved it. So please don’t be an idiot and make comments about things you know nothing about.

So please don’t be an idiot and make comments about things you know nothing about. We like every yacht person are exceedingly upset by the incident and our hearts go out to Robert and his family. It could have happened to anybody driving down that channel at approx 8 knots. We have since asked the safety officer Mr T. Robinson to put a dedicated dingy Chanel through the harbour between the marinas in Falmouth Harbour and to either outlaw swimming in the dirty harbour or to make swimmers wear a bright coloured buoy. To ban jet skies from the area and wake borders. Also a speed limit should be introduced.

        • She was 400 yards from her boat. She was wearing dark blue and a blue swim hat. We were in our dingy going down the channel from Falmouth to Cat’ Marina travelling carefully. Sun was in our eyes, we were going slowly. The area should ban swimming in the harbour unless very close to the boat scrubbing bottom. All swimmers in busy areas should wear bright colours and a float. We were devastated by the accident, and our hearts and thoughts as well as prayers go to her family. We have often stood on our boat and asked fungus to slow down and not wake board or ski in the mooring fields. The safety Officers in Antigua need to make a dedicated dingy channel between the marinas and enforce safety aspects. The marine officers and police investigated the accident very thoroughly and it was proved to be a very unfortunate accident.

  4. The government needs to regulate these stupid jet ski’s and weird dingy boat stuff ASAP! Antigua beaches are meant for swimming and non-motor sailboats, they are not the kind of beaches for propellers here and there. Jet ski’s ruin the environment, so why isn’t PM focusing on those stupid things?

Actually, the illegal Jamaican’s and illegal D.R.’s are the ones that do these jet ski and dingy boat things on our beaches and it really makes our beaches ugly, loud and unsafe. Which tourists will want to come here with that kind of situation? Make this stuff illegal now!

    • yes and i can agree that is bad but just to band jetski operations thats sounds real crazy

  5. RIP.Lady.
I am aware that this is not a matter involving jet skis.It is tragic about the loss of a human life. Those riding Jet Skis at times have been known to come to close in contact with swimmers.Jet Skis riders come real close to the shores. There should be laws of the beaches with distances as a part of that Law.That riders of Jet Skis are familiar with. Before they are given the okay to operate a Jet Ski in Antigua and Barbuda. All boats operators and Jet Skis operators.Should not consume any alcoholic beverages before operating any of those crafts in my opinion.

    • I. Do not know details, just that she probably knew what she doing…….I am so very sad

  6. Prayers for Ella, her family and all of those involved. The most ghastly reminder that we all need to take care when we swim from a yacht and when we have an outboard. No soul is at fault.
    Heartbreaking.
