DJ Jime Hunt, Event Promoter says a number of measures instituted by the Ministry of Health will have to be adhered to by Patrons and Event Promoters.
Event promoter Chalita Rose says there is a process that must be followed before a promoter is given permission to host an event.
The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has decided to allow first Carnival event on July 16 on the condition that all attendees are vaccinated.
Event promoters who don’t adhere to these protocols could be fined $5000 and have their liquor licenses revoked.

Let’s not think 2021 for fetes or Carnival, it’s a much better to plan for 2022 and also much safer for both the population and those coming back to our shores for the first time since the pandemic… We are just no where near ready yet!! One thing at a time! July 16th is just too soon… Most people will not have full immunity until weeks after the second dose, so this is utter madness! How about instead we follow the USA and implement no mask wearing outside only for the fully Vaccinated/fully immunized 2 weeks after last dose? As we the people would benefit much more from the mask restrictions being eased while outside and it would be far more universal applying to all sectors of the Community. Also before we even think fetes those who are fully immunized should also be able to go and enjoy the beaches on Public Holidays… How can we begin to run before we can walk?!

Only allowing fully vaccinated people to do certain things is probably a good idea. It could serve as an incentive for some persons to get vaccinated. But it has to be appealing enough — otherwise it won’t entice. So if the rules inside these fetes are too strict, that may undercut the enticement that these vaccinated-only events would provide.

The reason for a vaccination requirement is obvious: unvaccinated people can’t participate in certain activities because of the high risk of the virus spreading among those who participate in those activities. This includes things like fetes, where covid protocols are likely to be widely ignored. Infected people are of course harmed by their own infection, but the harm is not limited to them. The health care system, the economy, and of course government resources also suffer.
And how do you we know, for sure, that a person doesn’t have the virus at any given time? There is no way to know for sure through testing. Now if you assume in advance that everyone attending an event doesn’t have the virus, as you appear to be do here, then everything is fine and good. But it is hard to see how such an assumption relates to the real world.
Please take some time to consider what you write. Because it is hard to make much sense of it.
