Weston Accuses Opposition of Elevating ‘Unqualified’ Leaders to Mask Shadow Agenda
Former Minister Lennox Weston has launched a sharp attack on the United Progressive Party (UPP), accusing it of propping up a “figurehead” leader while a hidden group of intellectuals positions itself to take control of government if the party wins power.
Speaking at a recent Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) rally, Weston claimed the UPP’s current leadership strategy is designed to mislead voters by placing a visible but “unqualified” frontman at the helm, while more politically ambitious figures operate behind the scenes.
“They have deliberately elevated someone who they know cannot read, cannot reason, cannot stand on his feet,” Weston told supporters. “His proudest achievement is to collect dead dogs.”
Weston argued that these backroom players have no connection to the public and are avoiding electoral scrutiny by refusing to stand for office themselves.
“Why don’t they put their names on the ballot?” he asked. “They’re waiting for a fluke win, then they’ll jump up and run the country from the shadows.”
According to Weston, the plan is for this group—whom he described as the so-called “intelligentsia” of the UPP—to seize key positions without accountability, sidelining other members of the party and effectively hijacking the government.
He went on to criticise the qualifications and competence of opposition figures more broadly, claiming they are ill-equipped to manage the complexities of a modern government.
“You’re about to bring in an unelectable set of persons,” Weston warned. “You’re telling your children they must go to school and study, but then you’re prepared to elect someone who didn’t even take the time to learn to read.”
Weston’s comments were part of a wider defence of the ABLP’s record in government and a call to voters to resist what he described as dangerous attempts to undermine the country’s political stability and future.
“This isn’t about one man,” he said. “It’s about protecting the country from being run by people who are neither prepared nor qualified to lead.”

Jesus Christ, this mans took the concept of advisors and make it sounds like a shadow organization. How can someone from a party saying the opposition is ruining the country’s rep, then goes on to use smear campaign like this. This is disgusting
What are you again a former, you have no value. Trying to weezle your way back in, you hugh, lazy, oversize, short neck, find it hard to breath, if this is what you do to try degrade someone to make yourself look sensible disgrace on you.
Wait time willl tell, you sound scared! Look at how Pringle have all you a baaayyyy! Gaston no want you he looking younger politicians to control
This guy, like many of the others, is a very dangerous one. He once hosted a radio on Observer, geared exclusively to topple the ALP. Everything that the UPP has said and is presently saying is the same things he used to say, especially about The TEN MILLION U.S DOLLAR MAN. After he lost the St. Philips South seat, he was kicked out of the cult and told that he was lazy and worthless and now the Serial Thief has found himself in pickles, he summons him to make a mockery of himself by trying to defend his thiefing actions.
Knowing Weston who always think he is the brightest bulb in the room, am sure he is angry that Gaston doesn’t have the qualifications to be minister of finance he Weston must be mad how he spoil all Antigua economy , but he can’t talk because he gets will lose all the monies he is getting.
No one should take anything Weston says seriously. He looks like a hippopotamus and he thinks like one. He’s out of government not only because the electorate rejected him but because the dunce elements that run his party are fully aware of the humongous racketeering that characterized Public Works and Customs under his watch. Now he’s trying to find a back door to get back into the creative enrichment rackets.
