Alan Weston has entered the race in St Paul’s as an independent candidate, setting up a three-way contest in the constituency ahead of the upcoming general election.
Weston will face incumbent E.P. Chet Greene of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party and the United Progressive Party’s candidate Franz DeFreitas.
Campaign material circulated by Weston presents him as an alternative to the two major political parties, with the slogan “Working for the People,” as he seeks to appeal to voters looking beyond traditional партий lines.
His candidacy introduces an independent voice into a race typically dominated by the ABLP and UPP, adding a new dynamic to the contest in St Paul’s.
The development comes amid broader discussion about the potential for independent candidates in the upcoming election, with some commentators suggesting that voter dissatisfaction could create openings for non-party contenders in select constituencies.
Businessman and social commentator Eli Fuller recently indicated that the current political climate may be conducive to independent runs, pointing to frustration with both major parties and the possibility of protest votes.
While independent candidates have historically struggled to secure seats in Antigua and Barbuda, Weston’s entry may test whether that trend shifts in the current election cycle.

This is his democratic right. He is the grandson of a stalwart AlLP politician and former senator John Mede. UPP if you close ranks and choose him as your candidate Chet would have had a noteworthy challenger. Franz your chances against Cutie would have been much better. Cutie for decades has done nothing for the people of his constituency. Well Sweet talking, fluffing and showing up with the same election playbook. You were doing such a good job when you were on observer radio. We heard of your community cleaning, youth employment programs/classes etc.
Did you stop after your falling out well the management in the radio.
You picked or UPP picked a wrong constituency for to run in. Cleon Athill got close because the country had a swing. Although she did not land foot in the constituency until she became a candidate. Her surname is well entrenched in the St.Paul constituency. She lived in Liberta up to in her teens. Attended the All Saints Secondary and then was a teacher there. Her father a retired senior police officer and most of her close family lives in Liberta. In addition to that the nation had swing desperately to the UPP party. Since then the UPP has imploded.
In the meantime Chet has continued to grow and produce throughout the years. He doesn’t wait until election to do stuff. He has been working everyday in this constituency. Almost like a plan in action to become the most popular and powerful politician in Antigua and eventually PM. His only problem is that he is older than PM Gaston Browne. So waiting is not an option. I guess it’s not secret that he might challenge.
Franz I heard your family lived in Liberta once upon a time . Is that your reason for running in Liberta. You are not known , not even in the neighborhood where your family once lived. Worst yet I listened to you mock the seventh day Adventist Church. That you once was a member. Liberta is a strong Adventist community and you are going to get punished for that as well.
If I was a diehard UPP supporter, I were lived in Liberta , I would have preferred not to vote, than to vote for someone that has no ties , has never shown an interest in my community. Choosing you as the candidate to run in St. Paul clearly demonstrates how low down UPP pant has fallen.
Ok so people will get paid by Gaston or the yt people who have lands in Barbuda beach front to lose or paid by the powerful Syrian family to create an attrition in the votes to the UPP?
@ Frankly Speaking
Chet will never challenge for leadership he is afraid of Gaston like all the other Matchstick men in the party. I at one time also thought he would and would have supported him but I can now see the yellow streak running down his back
Yo Allan, I can assure you that I can mobilize atleast 120 votes for you in the constituency. I will not disclose anything further but will simply work behind the scenes.
He not spoiler people fed up of upp and ablp…
