Welfare Representatives From Around The Region Meeting In St Lucia For The 11th Annual General Meeting Of The Caribbean Federation Of Police Welfare Associations

As of Sunday, May 21, 2023, Welfare Representatices from around the Caribbean began to converge on the island of St. Lucia for the 10th Annual General Meeting of the Caribbean Federation of Police Welfare Associations (CFPWA).

The welfare associations and federations around the region will be meeting under the theme

“Building and Sustaining Police Officers’ Welfare in the Caribbean for Better Societies Across the

Region” from May 24th–26th, 2023, at the Bel Jou Hotel, St. Lucia.

Among the items listed on the agenda for discussion are sexual harassment in the workplace, working conditions, proper compensation of Police officers, a lack of proper protective equipment, and a 40-hour work week. We note the many welfare challenges being faced by our members, and we are working collaboratively to improve welfare across the region. The CFPWA will also look to finalise the Representative Training Programme to certify Welfare Representatives across the region; this training is intended to improve the quality of representation.

President of the CFPWA, Mr. Travis Chicot, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Executive Committee and the Members of the CPFWA. He stated that “We extend our gratitude to Royal St. Lucia Police Force Commissioner Crusita Descartes-Pelius and more so to the Royal St. Lucia Police Welfare Association President Camron Laure and the hard-working Secretariat for being our gracious host.”

This AGM opening ceremony will be addressed by the Commissioner of Police, Attorney General Honourable Leslie Mondesir, who will be representing the Prime Minister. The keynote will be delivered by the Minister responsible for External Affairs, International Trade, Civil Aviation, and Diaspora Affairs, Honourable Alva Baptiste.
