Watts Rejects ABLP’s Claims of Ties to Asot Michael
At a UPP rally in St. Peter on Thursday night, St. George MP Algernon “Serpent” Watts dismissed claims by the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) that their candidate, Rawdon Turner, represents the legacy of the late Asot Michael.
Watts accused the ruling party of exploiting Michael’s name for political gain while failing to deliver for the constituency during his tenure.
Watts criticized the ABLP’s attempts to link Turner’s campaign to Michael’s long-standing service to St. Peter, calling it a cynical ploy to secure votes.
“They have the audacity to claim Asot Michael’s legacy while forgetting how they discarded him when he was no longer convenient,” Watts charged, highlighting the fractured relationship between Michael and the ABLP leadership.
He further condemned the ABLP’s neglect of the constituency, stating that Michael was the only one who consistently stood in the gap for the people of St. Peter while the party leadership turned a blind eye to their needs.
“Where was Rawdon Turner when the people of St. Peter were crying out for roads and better living conditions? Nowhere to be found,” Watts asserted.
Watts argued that the ABLP’s abandonment of Michael after years of loyal service exemplifies the party’s disregard for both its members and constituents.
“When they decided Asot Michael was no longer useful, they discarded him like yesterday’s news. Now, they want to invoke his name as if they cared about his legacy,” he said, urging voters not to be misled.
The St. George MP also questioned the credibility of Turner’s campaign, describing it as a desperate attempt to capitalize on Michael’s popularity without offering any real solutions for the constituency’s issues.
“The people of St. Peter are not stupid. They see through this manipulation,” Watts declared, rallying support for UPP candidate George Wehner.
Watts concluded by calling on St. Peter voters to honor Michael’s legacy by rejecting the ABLP’s tactics and demanding genuine representation.
“This by-election is not just about filling a seat—it’s about fighting for a better future. The ABLP wants your vote but doesn’t deserve it,” he stated.
With emotions running high in the wake of Michael’s untimely death, the St. Peter by-election has become a battleground for contrasting visions of the constituency’s future.

This comment shows that Serpent has no political instincts or know how. This is politics not dolly house. This is what politicians do. Seize every advantage available. And Asot was always Labour. He may have been expelled but in his heart and soul he never left and while officially he was out he was always welcomed by ABLP politicians and members. Did you see him emotionally embracing the PM and his sister at their mother’s funeral or waving the ABLP flag in Barbuda?

@Joy- The ballots will show how many votes Serpent lost next election.
He has disappointed people time and time again by talking a big game on radio and then silent as a lamb in Parliament.
Asot is not like Anthony Smith, Sean Bird or Mansoor.
Asot did not get expelled from the ABLP and try to join the UPP. He sat silently independently.
At the Barbuda Airport opening, he conveniently had the ABLP flag in his pocket and waved it when the PM asked him if he was still a comrade.
As Asot would say, “I come from the bowels of the Labour Party.” “Lester Bird was my surrogate father.”
Y’all really think that Asot and most of his followers aren’t redder than red?
Asot supported Gaston in the anti- gang stance and embraced Gaston.
The ABLP does not have to try to make it seem like Asot was ABLP- adjacent. He said for himself that he comes from the BOWELS of the ABLP.
Read it and weep!

WHAT THE HELL! …CYNICAL PLOY…? – CYNICALLY STUPID
Well, ‘…Paragraph 2,’ seems ‘…CYNICALLY STUPID.’
WHY…?
Embarking upon an ‘…Electoral Venture,’ no ‘…CANDIDATE,’ nor anyone supporting a ‘…CANDIDACY,’ shall venture out with an attitude of ‘…CYNICISM.’
Such was never a ‘…PLOY’ as the news reporter has it.

CYNICAL PLOY…?:
Moreover, none shall enter an ‘…ELECTORAL CONTEST’ with ‘…CYNICISM,’ that is:
(i) ‘…CYNICALLY BITTER:
(ii) …CYNICALLY SCEPTICAL:
(iii) …CYNICALLY DOUBTFUL: or’
(iv) …CYNICALLY STUPID.’
STRATEGIES:
These are certainly not ‘…STRATEGIES FOR GAINING AN ADVANTAGE,’ and certainly not the ‘…UTTERANCES,’ of the ‘…SERPENT.’

This news reporter seemingly needs a ‘…LANCE.’

ALP’ supporters are reminded of Gaston’s comments regarding the late Asot “Asot Michael is rotten to the core and he would not hold any ministry within my administration.” Gaston intentionally turned up at Asot’s consistency and publicly, and aggressively threatened Asot that he would fist him in his mouth.
Serpent has aptly pointed out that the people of St Phillips are not easily fooled, undoubtedly, the people of St Phillips will give ALP a bloody nose come election on behalf and in memory of the late Asot who was brutally and conveniently murdered.
What are the fringed benefits of becoming a Minister of Parliament? So what ever your reason is for putting him there i.e your dislike for Dean or for his popularity as a radio host, or what ever reason, you have set the man up for life with your vote.
I hope I never become a idiot like BIGGS and PAPA really dunce elements
