As the Easter Weekend approaches, the authority anticipates an increase in kite-flying activities but emphasizes the potential danger and hazard they pose to aircraft.

The no-fly zone for kites extends from Five Islands in the West to a portion of Cedar Grove in the north, encompassing areas such as Piggotts, Osborne, and the immediate surroundings of the VC Bird International Airport.

A detailed illustration has been provided for reference to ensure compliance with the regulations.

In their notice, the Airport Authority highlights the importance of cooperation from the public in adhering to these safety measures. Kite-flying in restricted zones can disrupt aircraft during their approach or departure from the airport, posing risks to both air traffic and public safety.

“We kindly ask the public to refrain from any kite flying in the designated no fly zone,” stated a spokesperson for the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority. “Your cooperation on this important matter is truly appreciated as we work together to ensure a blessed and safe Easter for all.”

  1. WHAAAT??!!
anyone ever hear of this before?
My family have always enjoyed the excellent CP Kites International Kite Festival at Devils Bridge, along with hundreds of other local families.

We are excited this year to attend the Night Kite Flying extravaganza at Splash, part of said International Kite Festival. It’s a new experience for us.

How come Airport Authority coming with this nonsense on the Tuesday before Easter Weekend?

ABTA has been happily listing & promoting this clean, family fun festival overseas and many tourists participate. How come Airport Authority didn’t react at least a month ago?

Will airport authority, at this very late stage, reimburse organizers for their costs and the international night fly experts their costs???
and apologize to my family for ruining their Easter Saturday plans?

My family upset, and vex at yet another last minute, no thinking ahead, peculiar regulation throw-down. Seems to be the way things are done in Antigua, embarrassing.

Surely for the very few (count on one hand) Saturday night airline flights, an adjusted flight path could be declared and our excellent ATC be relied on to successfully implement?

      • Sir
        Please read my comment carefully.
We are concerned for the event on Saturday evening at SPLASH, which is in the ‘red zone’ on map.
The airport authority release clearly says ‘ no kite flying in red zone on map’.
We are fully aware Devils Bridge on Monday is far from the red ‘ban’ zone on map’.
        Enjoy your Easter weekend.

        • Fun bring fart…what you prefer? Oh you no kay cause none ah you family member go be pon plane over the Easter weekend.

  2. So no DRONE use in this banned area presumably.
Who enforces that with cruise & land tourists? Fete Promoters? Uni students? Govt Ministries and their sub contractors? The public?
