Volcanic emissions are likely reaching Antigua and Barbuda and will likely continue for the next 48 hours…

Emission: Ash, sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide

Location: Antigua and Barbuda

Timing: Until Friday.

Synopsis: Dr Graham Ryan–Director and Volcanologist of the Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO), has indicated, with a high degree of confidence, that ash from La Soufrière Saint Vincent (volcano) reached Montserrat yesterday and continue to do so up to this morning, mainly suspended in the air.

Given our proximity to Montserrat and consistent with volcanic ash models and forecast winds, it is highly likely that Antigua and Barbuda also has had ashfall from St. Vincent and will likely continue to experience ashfall for, at least, the next 48 hours.

There is also Saharan Dust; hence, air quality is reduced to moderate by the presence of a mixture of volcanic ash and Saharan Dust.

Impacts are expected to remain minor, but the threat of health problems is elevated, for mainly unusually sensitive people, such as asthmatics, people with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children.
