REAL NEWS ANTIGUA: A mishap on the grounds of the former Half Moon Bay Hotel on Monday, December 11, when two dogs allegedly fell into a disused septic pit, has been clarified.
Initial reports, accompanied by photos, had suggested that a female tourist had fallen into the open hole.
Allegedly, the woman had taken her dogs for a walk in the area when they ran ahead of her and fell into the hole, which had been concealed by high grass.
Reportedly, the barking of the dogs drew their owner and others to the area, where the open hole, said to be over 15 feet deep, was
discovered.
The woman reportedly was panicked by the situation, but relieved after several persons came to her assistance. Apparently, she was lowered into the hole to retrieve the animals and was then pulled from the pit, herself.
Allegedly, a dead goat was also discovered in the open pit.
Many persons have said it would have been a more dire situation if a human being had fallen into the hole – with one resident asking why the disused pit had not been properly covered, since people frequent the nearby beach.
According to her, “only in Antigua” would one expect something like this to happen.
The woman notes that a child could have fallen into the hole and been seriously injured or killed.

Antigua, a place of tourism, and beauty, folks are wondering why tourist are wondering about a tourism place where there could be attractive nuisance.
Where hotels and government should have known that areas could be attractive to not only tourist but to children, causing them to investigate, admire, and approach.
These land owners has a duty to warn and to make safe these dangers.
Tourist should be careful and it applies also to land owners and users.

At or near such hotel, the standard of care, and duty to make safe is tremendously high. That means this lawsuit, even in Antigua (common law), would mostlikely pay out for the guest or person, whatever label you want to give to the tourist.

While, shoddy reporting have many of us speculating, about the facts of this incident, if this incident happened on the abandoned property, which was formerly Halfmoon Bay Hotel; and, if my memory serves me correct, the last time I visited this beach, walked to the south side, and look at the property, it was fenced with NO TRESPASSING signs posted.
While the Nation has some issues, when it comes to protocol(s), if this person entered an abandoned property in the USA without authority, and falls to her death, she nor her family is getting #shit.
Again, she’s fortunate(again speculation), that she got was shit all over her.

@Ras Smood, my friend, there is an exception to even having to such signs up called attractive nuisance or the warning were not adequate nd barrier were not reasonably erected to bar trespasser.
However, you are correct, all the facts aren’t in bit I speak in general.
Under common law jurisdictions common carriers (transportation companies) and inn keepers (hotels, motels, guess houses) have a high standard of care to make safe their service and property and even the slightest of negligence would result in them being liable for negligence/harms caused to plaintiff.
The care is nearly that of a strict liability, slightest wrong, they are responsible.
@my way of helping…as an Immigration attorney, you’d be aware of the hundreds of migrants dead bodies which are found, on the USA side of the US Mexican border who perish due to their(the migrants) ‘trespassing,’ unto USA soil where barriers and WARNING are clearly and distinctly posted. Some of those who died even have relatives living in the USA, as American Citizens. To date, do you know, of any successful lawsuit brought against any entity in the USA for either their injuries or death?
In another note, I know the Nation do not have the capacity nor funding to collect blood and urine samples, store them or have them readily tested; however, every individual who is involved in any accident, whether, driving or otherwise and it’s reported to the authorities, MUST have their blood drawn and urine submitted to the relevant authorities for analysis.
Similar to any accident which happens at any work site(referencing USA codes).
