Mikhail Gomes of Potters, man the charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend Vincia James has been committed to stand trial in the September criminal assizes.
He learned yesterday that the court is satisfied that a prima facie case was made out by the prosecution to warrant a trial before a judge and jury in the High Court.
Gomes is represented by attorney Lawrence Daniel.
Daniel reportedly told the court that the case should not go to trial because there were no eyewitnesses, no medical evidence to substantiate the cause of death as murder and questioned whether murder can be verified in the absence of a body.
The New Winthorpes is still missing over a year later.
Police prosecutor Senior Sergeant Dane Bontiff there was substantial circumstantial evidence to send the case to a judge and jury for them to decide.
The magistrate agreed.
