Does this not prove indubitably the pathological liar that Gaston Browne is? Make no mistake about this, the DAWG is the mastermind behind this infamous land desecration. The other compromised, self-enrichment failures in the cabinet are spineless and will never speak up.
Oh what a colossal mistake in putting this dunce back into power, to destroy our country!
The Chief of Staff stated the facility at Dunbars, despite having various soil types present in the area, was not the ideal place for agricultural testing.
How can Mr. Whenner allude to the Ministry being ill advised? It is obvious a consultation was held with their chief Agronomist and technical experts. Apparently, the location’s soil was always of a poor quality even though it produced an excellent harvest during slavery and the days when sugar was King.
I am no expert in these matters, I have to take what Lionel Hurst says at face value because he is known to be an honest man and he is well versed in all aspects of Science much like his peer the Hon. Molwyn Joseph who once stated of the importation of the Toyota Vitz automobile as, and I quote, “A public health problem costing the government a lot of money.”
“We cannot when we have these young people with spinal injuries say oh it is their problem, they must drive more carefully,” he said, although he provided no empirical data or statistics to back his claim.
Max Hurst is going to say exactly what his boss tells him to say. Word on the street did say that physical step out of line consequences has been used previously. It is glaringly obvious that more self-enrichment is coming out of this project. Look at the heavy equipment already raking in rental monies from us. Mid-range narcissists have no empathy, have a tendency to violence, cannot be told “no”, are excessively greedy and do not tend to be successful with anything they do.
IMO this land grab is an absolute abuse of power, and the Antiguan people need to put a stop to the out-of-control destruction of agricultural lands for unnecessary housing projects. The Ministry of Agriculture should be the most important ministry and especially so at this time when the world is suffering from serious food shortages. Antigua used to export Sea Island cotton to Japan and now the ABLP could care less about the cotton or food security. It is all about themselves from the top back down. KEEP WAKING UP ANTIGUANS; take back the country before it is completely ruined by selfish incompetence.
This is a travesty. 😭😭😭😭
Protestors standing up and fighting, where are the Agricultural workers???
How could anyone do such a thing to agriculture
What agriculture? What was grown there that filled our food basket? Stop lying to the people.
What foolishness George is spinning.
Not one person believes that this location other than the few toe the line hard core supporters is taking a food source from our plate. This piece of land has never produced anything of consequence to fill our shopping cart. Stop fooling the people Pringle. You call for protest and soon no one will show up. This turn out is indicative of the UPP leadership – Dead and ineffective. This is a non issue.
As our society grows, so too our need for housing.
I wish the UPP laggards would show up in Parliament the way they showed up today. We voted for them to represent us on serious issues, this is not an issue that needed a protest.
As the blue dogs bark, the red wagon rolls on. GASTOM BROWNE IS THE RIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB. BEST PM AND LEADER. He would never call for a picket for this BS.
He leads by example and from the Front!
@ Smoke n Mirrors
Why don’t you stick to one name like Bluddy Joke or Bluddy Bloke…….think you writing a number of serial post will give the impression that the populace is in agreement with ‘tiefing’ Maria and Gaston? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
What a mistake Antiguans have made by putting Gaston in power- all he does is think up get rich schemes to fill their pockets for upcoming elections and handouts to the minions.
How much are you paid BLUDDY JOKE?
It has nothing to do with blue dogs and red wagons and everything to do with incompetent know it all leadership that does not seek advice from the qualified and experienced which, by the way, is probably why LIAT is closing down!!
@Smoke n Mirrors…it’s the obvious, that you’re not knowledgeable to the facts, of such things as…
A…the symbiotic nature, of life’s flora and fauna.
B…recycling to composting, utilizing such things as the abundance of sargassum and other seaweeds, to the bones, shells from the sea; to, trees which should be shredded, as composting materials.
C…the simple practice, of recycling to reduce the impact on our landfill and aquifers looks like it’s beyond your comprehension; hence, your #Smoke n Mirrors moniker!
Life’s more than an #illusion!

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
And the sad part about it @ I know I know NOTHING, is that they believe their own lies. SMH
“GASTOM BROWNE IS THE RIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB. BEST PM AND LEADER.” People actually believe this here in this country? Man, are we in trouble!
Explain to us patriotic, free thinking Antiguans, how this abject FAILURE is the man for the job? In fact, name ONE thing this idiot has done right that will benefit Antiguans and Barbudans in the future? Leader? Of what? I just never realized the irreparable damage the red cool aid can cause. Antigua has semblance of David Koresh and Jim Jones. One of the Fox New headlines read,”There’s a battle between good and evil.” Think about it. Ah, we will know in time what was behind this desecration when we know,”the rest of the story.”
@Smoke n Mirrors, another minion, sent to derail and deflect. I am beginning to get the real sense of the irreparable damage the red cool aid can cause. Antigua now bears semblance of David Koresh and Jim Jones. One Fox News headline read,” This is a battle between good and evil ”
“GASTOM BROWNE IS THE RIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB. BEST PM AND LEADER” There are many here who believe this. Oh, are we in trouble!
In time, we shall know the rest of this story.
Ladies and gentlemen the opposition will always be the opposition to bring ills to the public and to keep their momentum from the last elections. It is difficult for an employee to strike alongside politicians carrying placards with political statements.
In my view there that nothing is wrong with repurposing this area/ lands for housing development with a few small supporting businesses. I don’t buy into the fact that this is the only area that proper agriculture research can be done despite its history and soil type.
What is wrong here is how it was done. The total disrespect to the agriculture technicians. The haste to destroy the agriculture crops. The doubling down by the minister of agriculture blaming the workers. Although absolutely nothing was handed down from the cabinet to PS – From the PS to the Director- from the Director to the technicians and then to field offices and line staff . Instead of apologizing for not following proper protocols the government even went further to insult the agriculture workers. This will include from the PS -to Director- to technicians- to officers and line staff. Max Hurst in this post cabinet briefing was insulting to the entire agriculture community and the entire nation. All he did was to put the ABLP administration closer to their end of governance in this country.
I heard that the UPP politicians and supporters that were picketing saying- where are the agriculture stake holders, the farmers, the house wives, the vendors, the workers. Good for you that you are keeping up the political pressure. However, the very high percentage of independent swing voters in Antigua will not picket but will show their displeasure in the election booth. The last election was a typical example.
The attitude is like the PM and his cabinet vs the ministry of agriculture- like if the ministry of agriculture is not an arm of government. The Minister because of not having any balls- no leadership and only concern on his personal financial greed as the rest of his colleagues, has distance himself from this disrespectful turn of events. He will now try and let the ministry officials/ technicians look as if they were playing politics to try and save his Day.
So this housing project will end being a very successful development. However it will not erase the disrespectful attitude and the lack of respect to the agriculture community and this nation.
This administration as the leadership has been completely disrespectful to the opposition and to the electorate. The passing of the Alpha Nero bill and the rush is costing us so much that no one that voted for that bill should still sitting in our parliament. The rush to pass the 2024 budget and 2% ABST bill without bringing the stake holders on board goes against the rules of democracy. Antiguans are now faced with a government that says, after you voted them in office, they are not accountable to the anyone.
Here wishing everyone a healthy and prosperous 2024.
I am writing to explore and discuss the factors contributing to converting agricultural land into residential and commercial areas, with a particular emphasis on the concept of “highest and best use.”
In recent years, the conversion of agricultural land to residential and commercial use has become increasingly prevalent worldwide, driven by a confluence of economic, demographic, and development-related factors. One crucial element influencing this transformation is the concept of highest and best use, which assesses the optimal use of a piece of land to maximize its value.
Urbanization and population growth contribute to more residential and commercial space demand. As cities and towns expand, the need for housing, infrastructure, and business establishments intensifies. Developers and landowners seeking the highest and best use of their properties often find that converting agricultural land to residential or commercial use offers significant financial benefits. The increased demand for urban spaces can drive up land values, making the conversion economically attractive.
Furthermore, government policies and regulations play a pivotal role in shaping land-use decisions. Land policy and laws are often sometimes amended to facilitate the conversion of agricultural land, allowing for the development of residential and commercial projects. This flexibility is often driven by the belief that converting agricultural land to urban uses represents the highest and best use of the land, aligning with changing community needs and economic priorities.
The concept of highest and best use also considers the potential limitations of agricultural land. Environmental factors, such as soil quality, water availability, and climate change, can impact the productivity of agricultural activities. In cases where these factors limit the agricultural potential of the land, converting it to residential or commercial use may be seen as a practical and economically viable alternative.
However, it is essential to acknowledge that the conversion of agricultural land must be approached judiciously. Striking a balance between urban development and sustainable agriculture is crucial for maintaining the long-term health of our communities. Responsible land-use planning, conservation initiatives, and incorporating green spaces within urban developments are integral to achieving this equilibrium.
Converting agricultural land to residential and commercial use is often driven by pursuing the highest and best use in response to evolving economic, demographic, and environmental dynamics. While recognizing the economic benefits of such conversions, it is imperative to implement strategies that promote sustainable development, ensuring a harmonious coexistence between urban expansion and agricultural preservation.

In case some people don’t realize, where a lot of people live today were agriculture lands. Woods, Ottos, Belmont to name a few. My great grandmother use to get the biggest yams from woods.
People have to realize that the large cities in the US were once farm lands. Farm lands have been repurposed for housing all over the world. As the population increases, additional lands are required for housing. So please people, don’t protest too much, young people need a place to live.
I however think that the lands should be sold to people who will build their own homes. Not everyone wants the cookie cutter homes the government is building with all their structural problems.
