PM Browne Says He Felt No Anxiety During U.S. Alfa Nero Probe: “It Wasn’t True”

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has said he felt no anxiety during the high-profile U.S. discovery matter into the Alfa Nero yacht sale, maintaining that the allegations made against him were entirely false and politically motivated.

Speaking on his weekly Pointe FM radio programme on Saturday, June 7, Browne reflected on the conclusion of the U.S. court proceedings, which he said had effectively vindicated him after months of intense scrutiny and public criticism.

“Well, I feel the same, you know,” Browne said when asked how he felt following the outcome. “Because it wasn’t true. So I didn’t feel any sense of anxiety.”

The Prime Minister had come under fire after opponents alleged that proceeds from the sale of the Russian-linked superyacht Alfa Nero, which had been docked in Falmouth Harbour, were misused or misappropriated. Browne has consistently denied the accusations and insists they were part of a coordinated smear campaign.

“The most that had happened, while they dragged me, I put some licks on some of them. And that’s how I got my satisfaction,” he added.

The government of Antigua and Barbuda was the first globally to successfully obtain U.S. authorization to lift sanctions on a seized Russian-linked yacht, and later proceeded with the sale. Browne has described the effort as a significant diplomatic and legal achievement.

“No one gave us credit for that,” he said. “But getting the sanctions lifted—that in itself was a major achievement for this country.”

Browne also disclosed that the legal defence costs for the case amounted to nearly one million dollars, shared between the government and the West Indies Oil Company. He blamed what he described as “foreign mercenaries” and domestic political opponents for fuelling the accusations, singling out U.S. attorney Ralph DeLuca and members of the opposition United Progressive Party (UPP).

Despite the personal attacks and political fallout, Browne said he remained focused on transparency and national development.

“They gambled,” he said, referring to the failed attempt to uncover wrongdoing. “But Rastaman ain’t greedy. Rastaman is disciplined and works for what they want.”

The Prime Minister reaffirmed that neither he nor his wife hold overseas bank accounts or assets, a decision he said was rooted in his long-standing commitment to building Antigua and Barbuda’s economy.

“I want to leave this country significantly better than how I inherited it,” Browne said. “And I’m not doing this to be hostile to anyone—I just want results.”

  1. Oh knock it off already Gaston. What politically motivated? The Russian lady is going after you for her boat and she has the resources to continue to do so. You are the one making it politically motivated as you pit one half of the population against the other, which allows you get get away with what you are doing. This is very much like Trump is doing in America. You see making yourself look like the victim as the gateway to another term. I hope Antiguans see through this and realize that their lives are becoming harder and it has NOTHING to do with UPP.

  3. He lie nf me know he lie nf soon as he mentioned that he na hab no assets nowhere…I mean come on son really?

  4. This man must think that everyone in Antigua are fools.

The judge denied the subpoenas into your financial history Gatson, that’s it, because the lady didn’t have enough probable cause to dig up into your finances going as far back as whenever, that’s all he did.

You having the authority to sell the woman’s boat is a totally different mater under the international sanctioned rules.

Tell the truth PM..one has nothing to do with the other..and as far as I know and have read about those matters pertaining to the selling of the boat, those matters are yet to be finalized.

So hold your horses Gatson, because we all know that stupidity and bad judgement in selling the boat will not just vanish like that, because these billionaires are far from stupid.

Gatson Browne is still railing about this Alfa thing, because the knows and many of us know that it’s not over, so he is trying to make his case in the eyes of public opinion.

Well here is public opinion Gatson, those same opinions that you never listen to. Many on both sides told you to just charge the billionaire for the upkeep of the boat and leave the man boat alone.
And if that route is not settled, then you go after what you are owed. That would have been the smart way to go, but no, you ignore all those opinions, now here you are talking about “politically motivated”.

There are many supporters of the UPP that are on this very forum that are very out spoken about the UPP and there foolish moves as well, many on here are not biased and no how to exercise common sense, but you have a bunch of followers that just sit back and say nothing about your foolish mistakes, so stop with political BS, please.

You don’t listen to anyone Gatson, not even your own supporters.

  5. It is time for Mr Pompey to talk straight for the little man on the street to understand him. Even don’t really understand him. I try to follow him but i just have to stop
