No one in Antigua should be making any less than $25 per hour. The government is wholly responsible for the dismally low minimum wage. We literally purchase everything in US dollars when you consider that we don’t actually manufacture anything here and import everything. No matter who caused the issue, it needs to be fixed. Figure it out. That being said ABLP has increased minimum wage more thsn once in the past 2 terms so let’s see if they will work to bring it to acceptalbe levels while conisdering sustainability.
A increase in minimum wage would be fine, but the government must make sure that all civil servants are doing their duties properly
@ Antigua First…I like your pie in the sky idea. Do you understand how wages correlate with the domestic economy and how it affects prices locally and overall competitiveness? I guess you are free to talk because there is an audience for everything in life.
If the prices in the supermarkets were well policed we would be ok, but government keeps allowing them to gouge us especially the one that is too big to fail. Prices and Consumer Affairs is a bloody farce, they should be investigated
Gradual is the key word. That gradual could take centuries. But gradual is gradual. Whichever this had been the only government to increase fees after many many years.
Why does the PM want everything beneficial to the public servants to be incremental whereas everything related to givernment ministers must be instantaneous?
While public servants waited years to realise a 14 percent increase in salary the cabinet took theirs in one heap.
While public servants waited for years to collect the last portion of owed back pay government ministers collected theirs in one shot.
While givernment ministers are living tax free and receiving healthy salaries this PeeeeeeeeeM is talking of gradual increase in minimum wage.
The gardener at every government minister’s mansion gets paid better than minimum wage yet public servants are struggling to make ends meet.
Where is your empathy Gaston Browne
I agree the minimum wage should increase but certainly not by the 50 percent margin the union is proposing
They should. If taxes can go up gradually, then minimum wage should as well.
Yeah Gaston support gradual ( for old people* little! Little!) wage increase so you always have them down in poverty, because cost a living is going pass minimum wage increase and keep the people right where the politicians want them, that is begging.
I working two jobs just to keep lights on. EC$9 can’t carry nobody nowhere these days.
Three increases since 2014? Dat nuh sound too impressive if cost of living gone up every year.
Da man only remember workers close to elections. We need consistent leadership, not campaign promises.
