Dancehall artist Masicka delivered a message of discipline, resilience and self-awareness during a youth-focused discussion, encouraging young people to carefully consider their choices, social circles and long-term goals.

The session, highlighted by remarks shared by Wayne Mariette, featured Masicka reflecting on his upbringing in poverty with a single mother, and how those experiences shaped his mindset without defining his future.

He pointed to education, reading, faith and determination as key factors that kept him grounded while pursuing a music career.

A central theme of the discussion was the role of environment in shaping success. Masicka and fellow speaker Dawson Lewis both stressed that the people individuals surround themselves with can significantly influence their path.

Masicka noted that having the right team, belief system and support network can make a meaningful difference in achieving goals.

He also advised aspiring artists to approach music not only as a creative pursuit but as a business, urging them to protect their work, understand publishing and take intellectual property seriously.

Discipline, consistency and hard work were identified as core principles behind his success, with Masicka cautioning that talent alone is insufficient without focus.

Beyond fame, he said his definition of success centers on improving his family’s circumstances and inspiring young people from similar backgrounds to believe in the possibility of a better future.

  1. Not a HATER I am a fan of dancehall music but just wanna say if you wanna be positive and send a good message to the youths stop making violent lyrics like below

Weh We Do, We Buss Di .9 Dem Loud (Buss)
    Push Di Violence Proud (Push)
    A Suh We Silence Crowd
Wash Sparta, Mash Up Yuh Style Dem Whole
Which Pu**y Fi Run File Inna ‘e Road
A Mi .9 Dem Loud And We Wild And Cold
To Dem Man Weh Dem Sign Dem Soul

Thats from a popular Masicka song titled Death Row released 2 months ago…Just saying to all artist it’s a see saw affect to say ohh those are just lyrics don’t follow them but lemme just preach the violence and tell you not to be violent….

  2. @this world. Very well said. U cannot be preaching one thing to the youths but ur song saying something very different. Just does not make sense at all!!!

  3. Well said Ambassador Masicka. Thought not born here, you are willing to give more than even some who are born here. Its good news to hear of your willingness to mentor our young artists. This reminds of the good Samaritan It is clear that success in music these days calls for persons to be willing to not limit themselves by geography. We now see Nigerian artists eg Davido mentoring artists from nearby countries. Why is it that some in A&B have a problem with an artist from a caribbean country mentoring our own artists? In sports a Viv Richards never mentored a player from another regional country? In the past he offered to help cricketers in India. We need to embrace opportunities that help our people to grow and ignore the barking

  4. Making it as a bonafide artist signed by a reputable music label to promote, market and sell your music is like hitting the 1 million lottery every year.
The reality is one in a million might get to become an International artist. Selling DANCEHALL music to the youths ain’t no different than selling an NBA, EUROPEAN SOCCER, MLB, NHL, NFL Dream to a ghetto youth. 99.9% don’t make it
The reason why this artist lyrics are about guns, violence and sex is because those things sells in any form like drugs.
DANCEHALL is not music. It’s nothing but a LIVE version of a 1970’s Disco. DANCEHALL is basically dead in Europe and North America. Its counterpart REGGAE is holding on by a thread.
