Mourners have gathered today to pay their final respects to slain businessman George “Charlie” Barnes, whose death last month shocked the nation and left the community in mourning.
Barnes, a 74-year-old gas station owner, was fatally shot outside his home on Nugent Street, Ottos Newtown, on September 12.

He was remembered during the funeral service as a hardworking, generous, and humble man who dedicated his life to his family, business, and community.
Family, friends, and members of the business community filled the church to celebrate his life and legacy. Tributes highlighted his decades of service and the kindness he extended to all who knew him.

Police say investigations into his killing are ongoing.
A post-mortem examination was conducted by Government Pathologist Dr. Petra Miller-Nanton on September 29, but authorities have not released the official findings.

Farewell to a remarkable man. Was always a kind and generous person who bore no ill will or malice against anyone. Taken down at a time and period of increased violence in Antigua and sadly we are still awaiting for the perpetrator or perpetrators to be caught and brought to justice.

Good man, the funeral felt like everyone gathered in a family house with love today, but you! Yes you am talking to you the killer, go turn yourself in to the police before we the people get our hands on you, you shall drink rum use drugs to hide from your conscience all the days until you surrender, even your family members will be affected, if you have kids or a mother or father or sisters and brothers, surrender to the people for this good man life you took.
