Driver damages fresh concrete as road works continue in Bathlodge
A section of newly laid concrete in Bathlodge has been damaged after a motorist drove through a restricted work zone, despite clear warning signs and barriers.
Officials say the incident occurred while road improvement works were under way in the community, part of a wider infrastructure programme affecting several across the country.

In a public notice, authorities said the driver “deliberately” breached a boundary barrier, causing damage to freshly poured concrete that had not yet cured.
Road crews have now issued an urgent appeal to motorists and pedestrians to comply with all safety measures at active work sites.
They are urging the public to respect road signs and barriers, use clearly marked detour routes, and follow instructions from workers on site.
Officials also warned that newly paved surfaces require time to dry and harden properly, noting that it is not always possible to determine whether the surface is safe to use by sight alone.
The damage is expected to delay completion of works in the affected area, adding to costs and disrupting progress.
Authorities thanked the public for their patience and cooperation as efforts continue to improve the country’s road network.

There is some real dunce drivers in Antigua… smh
Sigh! Why would someone do something like this jack?! What we really want in this place? If their vehicle gets impounded or they become incarcerated because of this, what would we think? Really sad!
If they know who the driver is , he should be charged and made to pay for the damage. Nonsense
Tell you boy…..People in Antigua just friggin DUMB!!!
Dumb dumb dumb dumb and dumb!!!
Lock his ass up and let him pay for the damage
How r you going to blame a driver on these terrible roads for this?! There is no signage whatsoever no pylons no cones not even a friggin piece of string along there telling people to keep away. The contractor should be charged for not having proper signs. Look at the road behind the stadium there are huge holes in there that if one of our visitors drives down at night and doesnt see them could lead to a fatality. There are so many places like this in Antigua. It is time we hold APUA and Public Works accountable. It will never happen tho. This place is run like a cult I swear.
No.
The driver should not be charged.
It is foolishness to suggest that.
I was not there.
I do not know who did it.
However I can tell how it happened.
Firstly it is as a result of PISS POOR or NO signage by the contractor.
Here is how it unfolded.
The contractor did not erect a sign informing drivers that road construction was taking place.
Drivers entered the one lane road from both sides.
One entered from east and one from west or north and south as the road runs.
On approaching each other one driver attempted to pull off so the other driver could pass.
In so doing he fell into the soft concrete mix.
Having fallen into the soft mix he sank below the road level of the dry portion.
As a result he could not pull back onto the dry or hard concrete raod.
He had to drive until he could get off the soft portion thereby causing the visible damage.
It was not deliberate.
It was unavoidable.
It could have been prevented if only the contractor had placed proper signage saying that entry was from one end of the road only.
In that way no one would have to pull off to allow someone else to pass and in the process fall into the soft concrete.
If signage was there and someone fell into it the contractor could then go the legal route against that driver.
These concrete road are like gratters on your tires. Also they deteriate quickly. I don’t think they are any stronger or better than a well done asphalt road
Gad nar sleep
Did any of you who asked that the driver be arrested ever suggested that the thieves who stole the more than FIFTEEN MILLION DOLLARS in Vehicles be arrested and charged too?
@ ROVI .. As the time runs out, we must take heed of this blitz the ABLP is pushing. This blitz shouldn’t even be necessary—if they had been doing their jobs from the start, we wouldn’t need this rushed, intense effort now. When they rely on a blitz, it’s a sign of fear—big bulletin boards all over the streets of Antigua, splashed with their message. They’re trying to outspend, not outdo. This isn’t about more ads—it’s about doing the work. The roads should already be repaired; the water should already be flowing. And we should be able to get our visas, go about our lives, but instead, the CIP program has left us compromised. It didn’t help the little man—it just funneled money into their own circle, while we saw nothing. And don’t even get me started on the boat sale, with its enormous kickbacks. Let this be a wake-up call. Don’t fall for the mirage. This blitz is a desperate move—selfish, short-sighted—and if they really cared about the country, they would have performed from day one, giving the people a fair chance to choose. Instead, they called this election early—two and a half years ahead—showing their desperation, their self-interest. So, don’t be fooled—this is about them, not us. Let the people decide, and don’t drink the Kool-Aid. The blitz should never have been needed—because the job should have been done from the beginning.
This ignorance you all chatting calling wrong right and right wrong one day I’m this country you all will pay for it. Why should a motorist drive his vehicle on newly poured concrete ,? Every road that is being concrete whether government or not, signs are place to indicate keep off. Why politics make some of you so DUMB in this country. There are sings on the road indicating that you cannot drive there. Thst was a malicious act with someone with alteria motives
