Candlelight Vigil Held for Chantel Crump as Community Pays Heartfelt Tributes
A candlelight vigil was held on Thursday evening in memory of nine-year-old Chantel Crump, drawing a moving outpouring of grief and love from family, friends, and community members at the Keithly Sheppard Recreation Park.
The evening began with a peaceful procession through Chantel’s neighbourhood, followed by a gathering at the park where tributes were offered in prayer, poetry, and song—honouring the life of a child whose presence deeply touched all who knew her.
One tribute described Chantel as a light who could “tear down even the biggest and toughest wall,” with mourners vowing never to forget her name. Another prayer called for divine peace: “May the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you.”
Tributes in song formed a central part of the vigil.
Voices lifted in solemn and uplifting melodies, reflecting both sorrow and faith.
Lyrics such as “And I will call upon Your name and keep my eyes above the waves” resonated with many, expressing both grief and hope.
Poetic reflections spoke to the depth of the community’s loss: “Our sorrows run deep, never to be told, as the weeping comes in waves.” Others reflected on the spiritual journey and a belief in eternal connection: “In the beginning, God created me… and gave unto men wisdom, knowledge, and spirit.”
The evening concluded with a tribute concert where attendees continued to share memories and celebrate Chantel’s life through music and spoken word.
Chantel’s passing has left the community in mourning, but Thursday’s vigil served as a powerful reminder of her impact and the unity she inspired.

It’s a shame I join in your pain. It hurts that I couldn’t be there. I’m a mother and it’s not easy to lose a child or family.
From New York. In tears.
Justice for the little Angel named Chantel
JUSTICE FOR CHANTEL NOW!!!
Well done fellow Antiguan’s, as I’m moved to tears for the loss of this innocent child.
Chantel will live on in our hearts.
I was there in Spirit and heart, may the lord rest her soul in peace. R.I. P Chantell.
I was there in Spirit, may her soul rest in peace, with the Lord’s health and strength, R.I.P. Chantell.
May your departure though sad, help your nation to become a greater one. Rip. I don’t know you but I sure felt a connection as a mother. Mothers and father lets cover our children with prayers everyday.
JESUS INOSENSE BLÒOD FLOW IN OUR LAND
This news have me in tears, every time I heard or saw anything about Chantel ! As a human being, mother and grandmother , I’m heartbroken , to see how this innocent child was taken… Mercy !! May the grace and comfort of our heavenly Father be with alll that moan 🙏
Chantel is most likely dancing with the angels. She is in God’s hands. Thw saftwst place she could be. She’s better off than many of us here. Whatever killed her or however she died she won’t even remember. That’s the beauty of massiah.
Sending off a child must be the hardest thing in the life of a family. Nonetheless, one who life was cut short. I mean while they say nothing catches the lord by surprise, I sometimes wonder why he allow certain things to happen and for people to lose faith and question him. But there are some things we will never know. for now, let’s hold on for justice
Justice for you Chantel. I’m not her relative but i am impressed by the turn out as people don’t really show interest in things like these. I know the family felt the support behind them and i am very proud of her community for being in their colors! JUSTICE FOR CHANTEL
Please let us hurry up and put this soul to rest…
I hope you were present and on scene. I mean while the nations support, some supported by buying and shirt but not coming. Some watched the live broadcast by AntiguaNewsRoom. so i really don’t see and issue here. some even drive in there vehicles. you can’t expect full colors when there are people who works and even sell at these times. So the majority that went is more than a smile on the families face.
I was disappointed by the turnout. It seems to me that the sensationalism has died down and has taken with it the poignancy of and heartbreaking impact if this heinous crime. All of Antigua or at least thousands, should have turned out. A few hundred( though appreciated)was a drop in the bucket. We must never forget or minimize Chantel’s death for in doing so we put ourselves and our children in danger. JUSTICE FOR CHANTEL!!!
Justice for Chantel….. even though the whole of Antigua did not show up for the vigil, the support the family got was felt….
Chantel’s story will remain in the hearts of all who live on this sunny island..
I belive it’s time she gets Justice.
Justice for Chantel
I did not attend the march but saw bits and pieces on ANR. I was moved by the turn out
