Again, no one opposed the idea of a university.
Lovell, Jackie and even I are UWI graduates. The problem was/is the location. It would have been better placed in the old Navy Base at the time. That is evident now since the primary school has to be removed to make space and that is just the beginning since the bad drainage situation has not even been looked at yet.
Besides, if this govt cant even get one single project off the ground, cock will grow teeth before they can build not one but two schools. Thankfully, they would be gone long before that.

A university of Antigua was first proposed by the UPP, anoth idea stolen by the corrupt ALP. I remember Jackie Quinn and Jono Samuel working on a blue print for it.
The only objrction was the location.the ALP spinners are really grasping at straws.
@Cool Ruler, what the UPP proposed was fundamentally different. Their approach was to establish an independent university, and that was a terrible idea. Most small countries establishing national universities have issues with their degrees being widely accepted, the cost is usually prohibitively high, and national universities tend to have real issues in attracting internationally recognized specialists in their fields.
The approach used by the ABLP was a smarter one. You tap into an established university that has already solved the issues identified above.
Oh, and by the way, Lester Bird mooted a university for Antigua before the UPP, and Tim Hector did so before Lester Bird, and V.C. Bird did so before Tim when the Department of Extramural Studies (now UWI Open Campus on Factory Road) was established in the 1960s. What I’m suggesting is that the idea of a university in Antigua is a long, long time story. So no single party can take credit for that. What a party CAN take credit for is actually getting it done, and that party is the ABLP led by Gaston Browne.

That’s a lie- in 2008 Sir Lester Bird was the 1st one to speak about a University of Antigua and Barbuda then UPP that was in Government tried to hi-jack the idea by forming a do-nothing committee-

Antigua could be better served at this junturev in time by a technical college similar to UTEC in Jamaica. Uwi five island will continue to produce graduates who have no practical skill to fill present needs
Government recently announced a plan for abice to fill that need. Abiit could use some revamping though
