The Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority has expanded its operational capabilities with the recent acquisition of a powerful, state-of-the-art mobile harbor crane. The move is part of a broader initiative to modernize port operations and increase efficiency at the country’s main shipping hub.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced the arrival of the new equipment via social media, describing it as a “sophisticated powerful crane” intended to enhance the performance of the port. He also revealed that additional stackers are being procured as part of the ongoing upgrade.
The new crane is expected to significantly improve container handling, reduce turnaround times, and strengthen the port’s capacity to manage larger volumes of cargo. A video released by the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority showcases the crane in action, highlighting its advanced features and the level of precision it offers during loading and unloading.

Great to hear, and I assume this is mr telemaque voice, a very good guy, one time I had an issue with missing items and went to him, he had the security office pull up camera surveillance of the storage area that my items was stored at, he had me in a meeting with all his management team, and that’s while some Caucasian and Chinese were scheduled for a meeting with him, he told his secretary to give internet access and comfortable seating while he and I and his team become mobile by go cart to the sight where my goods are located, it took a long time to resolve it. If I was on the waiting end while he is seen accomodating white people to his office while I sit all day and wait I would be mad. Now to the crane inauguration of service at the port, that crane will become the same nuisance failure like the others, the plan by the UPP Baldwin Spencer administration in the negotiation for the port at the time in office was to have track mounted shore cranes that overhang the ship and driveway underneath to land the containers straight on a tractor truck which is much more faster and maintenance free. Gaston may have inflated the loans but reduce the infrastructural beneficial capacity to the people of Antigua and Barbuda, I still say that if ALP was the one to construct the Vivian Richards stadium or the new airport it would have been at a very reduced size, and the back roads to Pahram would not have been done, when you go to Guadeloupe and other ports you see real crane infrastructure. And the airport built by upp Baldwin Spencer administration save us from this embarrassing issue of running from the rain when you land in Antigua and have to deplane or disembark by having jet bridges, the propensity of the ALP to steal funds would not have given us jet bridges as am sure we can remember the vere bird runaway scandal with the old airport construction. Nuff said. Hooray Mr telemaque.
@Eldread = speaking of the upgraded airport under the UPP Baldwin administration, wasn’t there a cost overrun, of almost 100%?
Well I hope we have learnt from the way we purchase the Wadadli Power Plant. And that proper purchasing procedures has been put in place. And that certain checks and balances are and have been done by qualified engineers. And I know Mr. Telemaque is not one. He may know about the equipment but he is no engineer. And we need to ensure that proper securities are build in it. Monies should be placed in an Escrow Account and only release after having received a certified opinion from a renowned international valuator. You are buying a million dollar equipment you need not to nickle and dime. The risk is too great to carry it alone. It will be good for transparency if government would publish the purchasing agreement.
Remember APUA engineers went to China and inspected the Plant. Yet the plant that arrived here was a CAT in the BAG. International Valuators will ensure the client is not scammed. They will take all measures. Even if it means someone sleeping next to the equipement 24/7.
I trust the WPP was a lesson for the Gaston Browne administration how not to do things.
