Minister Benjamin reiterated the need for the University Campus to be established in Antigua and Barbuda. He noted that his government has a vision that within 5-10 years of operation, the educational facility will have great economic benefit not only to Antigua but the region.

Benjamin continued, “the access to higher education is very limited to small island countries and studies have been done to prove this; the opening of a 4th University Campus of the West Indies is critical, as it will be far more accessible to all persons and will promote the  further development of the country as a whole.

Principal of the Antigua State College Hyram Forde says the importance of the topic being discussed is understood and all measures must be put in place by the government to ensure that it becomes a reality.

Benjamin added that provisions will be made to ensure that the University once established will receive adequate funding from the government.

  1. Shouldn’t they think about fixing up the state college first and then he establishing of an university? The university will be a good idea for our country and it people.
Can any organization afford to pay people with Bachelor and Master Degrees even a PhD? Right now some companies don’t want to hire you if you have an associate degree or 8 to 10 CXC subjects. The first thing they will either say “you’re over qualified or they can’t pay you for your education.”
