Five Islands Secondary School to be used as main university campus

Amid ongoing discussions on the University of the West Indies Fourth Landed Campus, the government says it is the scheduled to receive final approval at the end of May 2019 and to open its doors in September 2019.

“All systems are in place or are being finalized to commence baccalaureate studies in four months,” the government insists.

The Cabinet condemned the irrational noises coming from the United Progressive Party and its leaders, and likened the opposition to the UWI Fourth Campus to the hostility which greeted the 1994 Board of Education Levy— introduced by Prime Minister Lester Bird to political protests by the UPP.

The plans for the university was last week criticised by former Executive Secretary of the Board of Education D. Gisele Isaac. She said Antigua is far from ready and said a local campus would water-down the UWI brand.
