The Minister of Health reported that the cooling system at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center is to be replaced by a modern air conditioning system—the first system having been placed in the building more than 20 years ago.

The new system will cost US$1.6 Million and will be installed in phases; meanwhile, several departments within the SLBMC have utilized independent units to bring comfort to the work environment.

  1. What’s sad is the amount of money in this tiny country and also the amount of money the government has misappropriated that something like this has to be completed in “phases.”

Also, what kind of system is this? Who got the contract? Is it necessary to be top of the line? Just get it done.

  2. They will say they bought top of the line but in a couple years when they brake down we will realized that they paid for the bottom of the line and thief the difference.

  3. Make sure my people make sure. Who will get a 4% cut? Why was an engineer put to head the admin? Why is a certain person who hoisted a rolls royce over a fence, up there everyday? Because we don’t want to be honest with ourselves ( just like Usher’s mom ), we pardon the blatant misgivings of those in authority.

  4. Ensure a full preventative maintenance schedule, facilitated by fully trained professionals, is in place and actioned from Day 1.
Please budget for those full time technicians time AND common spare parts.

So often in Antigua, the ‘shiney new equipment ‘ is celebrated without commitment of competent accountable people and resources to ongoing proper preventative maintenance.

It’s like flushing investment down the toilet.
Surely if there are people receiving the commission/finders fees they should be held financially liable if they ensure the ‘new equipment ‘ is effective, installed accurately and promptly, along with ensuring a preventative maintenance schedule by qualified technicians trained on the specific new equipment’ & make that part of the contract?
