Browne Dismisses Proposed ‘Sir Vivian Richards Complex’ as Unrealistic, Targets Opposition Over AI Image
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has sharply criticized a proposed multi-billion dollar sports facility circulating online, describing it as a “fairy tale” concept lacking any serious consideration of cost or feasibility.
The image, labeled “The Sir Vivian Richards Sports and Entertainment Complex,” depicts an expansive development featuring a stadium, track, tennis courts and other facilities. It has been shared in political exchanges ahead of the April 30 general election.
Responding to the proposal, Browne said, “A fairy tale, billion dollar, sporting complex, taken from Chat GPT without any consideration of affordability, viability or sustainability.”
He went further, taking aim at Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle, adding, “If Pringle dunce one more time 😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜.”
Sports Minister Daryll S. Matthew also weighed in, questioning the credibility of the concept and its presentation as policy.
“So you get a pretty image from chatGPT and parade it a your ambitious policy. Smh,” Matthew wrote.
The exchange underscores growing tensions between the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) and the United Progressive Party (UPP), with campaign messaging increasingly focused on competing visions for development and public spending.
No detailed proposal, costing, or official policy document outlining the complex has been publicly presented.
