UPP tells PM Browne to man-up and stop blaming APUA employees for his Administration’s failure

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has sunk to new depths in his latest attempt to dodge responsibility for the state in which the Nation finds itself.

Instead of manfully acknowledging the failure of his colleague, Sir Robin Yearwood, and the entire Cabinet to properly address the water situation, Prime Minister Browne has chosen to accuse employees of the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) – specifically supporters of the United Progressive Party – of sabotage.

How despicable!

On what grounds does the Prime Minister make such accusations? What evidence does he have to support them?  And why would he expose any employee of the Authority to the public derision and danger that are bound to result from his statements?

It was only last month that Political Leader Harold Lovell revealed the under-resourcing of the Water Division and the under-production of all the RO plants, as well as the Authority’s failure to commission at least three water-storage tanks installed by the UPP Administration.

It was clear that, until then, neither the Minister in charge nor the Executive had taken the time or shown the interest necessary to ameliorate the water challenges afflicting the people. …

Several years ago, Prime Minister Browne admitted that funds assigned to APUA for maintenance had been diverted to other purposes.  Was that sabotage or mismanagement?

It has been more than a year since the Administration alleged that millions of gallons of water are being lost daily due to leakage in The Point area of St. John’s.  Is that sabotage or incompetence?

It has been a few months since the public was told that loan funds intended to purchase new water pipes would not, after all, be disbursed, forcing the Authority to abandon its plans to replace all the old pipes.  Was that sabotage or the realization that the Government will not be able to service the loan?

The Prime Minister owes the employees of the Authority an apology.  They carry out the work as they are instructed; they do not make policy decisions.

Therefore, to accuse them of a criminal act simply to make political excuses for his Administration’s poor performance is unprofessional, unbecoming and un-statesmanly.

Further, the failure of the Minister responsible for APUA to defend the staff is nothing short of cowardly.

The workers and the public deserve better.

  1. The same UPP that badmouth the firefighters and the departement saying they showed up to the scene of the fire with EMPTY TRUCKS??? Good thing Elvis Weaver put the FACTS on record.

    • Any fool – apart from the ALP wise people would know that the PM creating diversionary tactics because they take Antiguans as stupid and easy going.

All I say to Antiguans is to let the ballot box talk for you. Become the silent majority. Enough is too much. I cry for you my country.

      • @Stand Tall serpent Watts

Are you taller than the pupah tree on the 🐍26 ACRES of land???? OLD STOVE,DIRTY PAMPERS, OLD STOVE AND RUBBISH CAN’T DONE!

  2. The Prime Minister is an EQUAL OPPORTUNITY BLAMER! He blames everyone else equally for his own failures. As Trump has said, “I take no responsibility!!!”.

  3. Why would Harold say this unless he knows it’s true.

Come on….we all live in ANU. WE KNOW THERE IS SABOTAGE GOING ON AT APUA WATER DIVISION!!!

How many APUA men out there selling water? One showed up in a water truck just over the long weekend and yes took my $$ after he filled my cistern.

      • How is the writer stupid? It f’ing pisses me off that A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT is being made into a political game!!

NO POLITICAL PARTY EVER HAD RUNNING WATER UNDER CONTROL!!! NONE!!! So whether it started in 2014 or before is irrelevant!

        • But your LABOUR GOVERNMENT AND ROBIN AND GASTON PROMISED THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD BE SOLVED IN 14 DAYS DIDNT THEY. IT WASN’T A POLITICAL GAME IN 2004 WHEN IT WAS THE CENTRAL ISSUE OF THE LABOUR PARTY PLATFORM?
          Gimme a break-fast

          • How do you assume that the writer is a Labour Party supporter? I read the comments and the person is correct….no political party has been able to deliver on any water promises because the reason(s) behind the water woes have not been dealt with. Gaston, Harold and Joanne can put down 10,000 RO plants but until a shake up happens at APUA, we (NO MATTER WHO YOU SUPPORT), will continue to suffer.

I don’t know who you are “Stand Tall”, no do I care who you support, but my toilet water is neither red nor blue. If you are going to vote red or blue based on water promises, then you are going to be disappointed.

          • No they did NOT promise that!!!! Go back and listen/watch the video. The PM said “INCREASE” and APUA did just that. Unfortunately we are facing an EXTENSIVE DROUGHT due to climate change. 😕

Go back and listen to the interview with Orvin Paige on World Meteorological Day. Our rainfall level has been awful.

  5. So why didn’t UPP fix the water issues in their time oh me forget Antigua only started after 2014 according to some of the braying areas on here. UPP have several seats at the back of the bus cause y’all didn’t do jackshit to fix the water issues!!!!!

    • Labourites. Comrades!! Whatever you all want your cult mentality. Mental Slavery is real in this 170 square mile State of Nation.

Stop the blame game. Stop the diversion. Stop the name calling. Recognize the issue for what it is.

No government. Not one has adequately addressed the problem of knowing that the geographical location of Antigua it is prone to drought conditions. Knowing that fact. You would think that from inception the Nation of Antigua and Barbuda. Now whole responsible for its internal and external affairs. Would have planned, forecasted and executed a domestic agenda that included address the issue of water production and storage. Based on the historical record of drought conditions that have plagued the island of Antigua. Not one Government has made it a constructive agenda and implement a plan to solve the problem wholeheartedly.

It has been a talking point. A political weapon. A waste of breathing by Government after Government . From since me barn. I used to see women walking up Johnhill from the standpipe in Freetown. With Cotta tie round there head; balancing a bucket of water on there heads. Lard that was in the 1970’s. Up to now. This is 2022 and we still have to soap up, dip a tin can in the bucket of water and rinse.

Dem days should be done by now. It has almost 42 years since Antigua and Barbuda became an Independent Nation. Dem sudden a still gwan.

This Government must be removed at the ballot box. They must me removed. VOTE THEM OUT!!!!!
This feverish pitch to convince you that they have it figured out. Is pure diversion. Listen to your hearts!! You know the truth. Politicians go from the begging ride to wealthy than the nations GDP overnight. Dat no sound good!!! They’ve had another chance. They did not produce.

Time to stop taking a wash off with a bucket and saucepan.

      TIK TOk.

      • Elvis waiting for you to support local. Buy something from Elvis shop like how you buy up the Syrian shawarma

    • Because UPP had power for 28 years prior to that. You guys are so smart.

According to your reasoning then the water problem should not have existed during 2004-2014 , because there were no issues for 28 years!

      DUH

    • Which bus? The one that was supposed to boost our schoolbus fleet and end up in the names of Lovell and the RAG TAG queen? Or is it the Wilmoth Daniel STRIPPER POLE BUS 🚌🤔
