UPP offers $10k reward for credible evidence of criminal activity related to SMS by-election
It has been brought to the notice of the United Progressive Party (UPP) and Kelvin “Shugy” Simon, its candidate for the St. Mary’s South, that operatives of the Antigua Labour Party are engaged in criminal activities to undermine the upcoming by-election.
There are reports that residents are being offered cash for the surrender of their voter identification cards – with the specific objective of suppressing support for Mr. Simon.
Such transactions are a criminal offense, according to the Representation of the People Act. Accordingly, the UPP is offering a reward of $10,000 to anyone who can present credible evidence that can lead to the prosecution of the person(s) engaged in this offense.
“The buying of the by-election must not be allowed to go unrecorded and, subsequently, unchallenged,” the UPP Leadership says. “The people’s right to elect the person they wish to represent them should not be subverted by means of bribery, inducement, or threats. Elections must be won honestly. Democracy demands no less.”

@Watching – Try and remember it was under the UPP that our electoral system received the most abuse. There are court judgements that show persons at the highest level of the UPP getting red cards: 1 UPP being called out by the court for breeching the constitution in amendments it tried to make to our elections laws @related to the Supervisor of elections b. related to the ABEC members 2. The court calling out the UPP PM for his ignoring their ruling 3. The court ruling that Baldwin defamed Lester Bird, in a calculated method to win an election 4. The US prosecutors pointing out that the UPP (Baldwin) was selling ambassador positions where funds was going directly into his bank account, note BS claimed the money was for the UPP 5. The illegal boundary changes the UPP tried to make, before the 2014 elections. 6. UPP underfunding the 2009 elections which caused confusion and ended up with some voters being disenfranchised.
