Every year, October 5th is celebrated as World Teachers’ Day, in recognition of the important role that teachers play in providing quality education. This year the United Nation’s theme is “Teaching in Freedom, Empowering Teachers.”
On behalf of the United Progressive Party, I want to recognize the sterling contributions made by teachers in Antigua and Barbuda at every level – early childhood, primary, secondary and tertiary. Our teachers not only facilitate learning, but they also play a critical role in preparing students to participate and contribute to their local community, country and global society.
As a former teacher and General Secretary of the Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers, I understand the challenges that today’s teachers face, like the poor classroom facilities, acute shortage of teachers, inadequate resources, and limited incentives or benefits. Yet most teachers remain committed to the profession and continue to make selfless contributions to their students and society.
I want to assure you that the empowerment of teachers and the promotion of the teaching profession, will be a top priority in the next UPP administration. We believe that teachers’ knowledge, experiences and insights can help shape effective education and development strategies for our children.
To all of our teachers, current, retired or deceased, as a nation, we will always be thankful for all of your hard work and efforts in helping to shape and strengthen our country.

Oh plz! Clearly there is no sincerity in recognizing the teachers on their special. Instead you choose to use a happy occassion to ATTEMPT to gain sme measly political mileage??

You nah min know dis when you min in day fu 2004-2014?? Baldwin Spencer admitted that the VOLUNTARY SEPARATION package was a mistake. The people of A&B will NOT make the mistake again of putting the UPP (much less under your leadership) back into power. Some DRASTIC, and I mean DRASTIC changes have to take place with the UPP before the populace takes that party seriously. so WHEEL AND COME AGAIN yo!
