UPP Launches Public Education Forum About COVID-19 Protection Guided By Trusted Community Voices and Transparent Communications

18

The United Progressive Party remains committed to using its platform to increase public confidence about vaccinations and will launch “Tackling COVID” a weekly 5-part series of public education forums.

In keeping with the Party’s ethos of public consultations, this national outreach initiative will aim to increase public engagement guided by trusted voices in the community, which will lead to greater public trust.

A panel of professionals in various fields including health care, mental health, education, labour relations, business and finance will share knowledge and information to help the public make more informed decisions, not just about their personal health, but the overall quality of life in their communities.

Panelists will participate in discussions that confront misinformation, fear and hesitancy with regard to vaccinations, while reinforcing prevention measures such as sanitizing, mask wearing and social distancing.

These weekly interactive virtual forums will be hosted on Tuesdays from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM and will be broadcast on Progressive Radio 107.3 FM and live streamed via the MYUPP Facebook Page.

The first episode which will be held on 21st September, will feature local, biological scientist, Radcliffe Robins and medical practitioner, Dr. Dwayne Thwaites.

The discussion will center on “COVID 19: Public Health and Your Protection” and there will be a Q & A session to address public concerns and information gaps.

The general public is invited to participate in this important series of virtual conversations that will address COVID-19 prevention and protection measures.

The panel of professionals will explore a range of topics, innovative strategies and best practices that have been used both regionally and globally, to address the impact of COVID-19 and the recovery process.

  1. Monday morning quarterbacks. This should have happened over a year ago. They have missed a prime opportunity to show government they could do it better. Vaccination is now mandatory. Suspect this move happened now because they knew of their inability to persuade. Their actions remind me of a clip where Sherlock Homes after examining a body loudly announces the obvious that the person is dead

    • Tenman although you are right. I don’t think this is the time to criticize anyone for doing the right thing. Let’s just hope that people who are gravitated to them listen and are having a change of heart and get vaccinated. The future look very grim for us if we do not get the vaccination rate up and achieve heard immunity.

  2. I get the sentiments about the time but better late than never when compared to what we have now from the governments side.

The government has mismanaged the Covid situation yet knighted a minister for his superb work. M

In light of the governments mandate it’s welcomed news the opposition will have and give a voice. Bear in mind many other entities were invited to a meeting to discuss the way forward and before the meeting the government posted the mandates.

Ultimately reassuring and calming voices are needed and this is welcomed!

  3. I just saw a clip where Gaston Browne said that no one would be vaccinated against their will. He said this just a few weeks ago and look where we are. The UPP Has been consistent in supporting the vaccine but they do not believe that vaccine should be forced on anyone. We the public are listening very intently. We the people, may go along to get along but we are listening intently.

  4. Jacquie Quinn is a “trusted””” voice???? And is Dr. Robins going to talk about animals??? DR. THWAITES IS THE ONLY TRUSTED VOICE I SEE on the flyer.

How come they don’t have JAMES LUKE on the flyer?

    • Thwaites…trusted by the PM. If you want to find James Luke this kind of activity is probably not the place. He’s on Corn Alley, behind roti king. That’s where you’ll find him. He’s also on Observer on Sunday (and Wednesday I think) evenings. I got more useful information from him when I had COVID than all the rest of them combined.

  5. One thought or two.
