UPP launches its Book of Major Achievements with an online version, as well as hard copy

26

On August 10, The United Progressive Party (UPP) launched its promised Book of Major Achievements2004-2014, which chronicles the work, programmes, policies and the Party’s overall accomplishments during its 10-year tenure in public office.

Harold Lovell, the Political Leader of the Party, lauded the compilation of the UPP’s accomplishments and states that the electronic version of the book will be available immediately, with distribution of a limited number of hard copies to follow.

He notes that what started out as a document of seven pages quickly mushroomed into an 80-page book. And while the publication is comprehensive, he says, it does not cover all that the UPP was able to accomplish in its two terms.

Among its feats, Lovell notes that the UPP was able to completely change and restore the image of Antigua and Barbuda, which, internationally, had been viewed as a rogue nation.

He also reminds the public of the many social programmes the Party introduced, many of which are still in existence.

Agriculture, Public Works, and new legislation for the maintenance of children, tabled in 2008, are among the other achievements of which the Political Leader says the Party is proud.

  1. Thoroughly enjoyed the book launch. It is good to hear about plans and programs that were implemented and bore fruit. Of course the UPP was not a perfect government but government is continuous and the ABLP has the opportunity to improve on programs or projects where the UPP fell short. If you don’t blow your own horn, no one else will. But in blowing your own horn, make sure you have the right song and the right tune. In other words stick to the facts. The UPP did that in this book.

  2. Anything better than Gaston Browne, the scamp and his underhanded entourage. All those imbeciles need to be voted out and removed from office.

  3. yet….these “achievements” cost you the election in 2014 and again in 2018. The problem is L-O-V-E-L-L Point. Blank. Period. Until L-O-V-E-L-L is gone, then ….. keep burying your heads in the Car Park at east bus station.

    • @hmmmmm

The ABLP was voted out of power in 2004 and 2009, why? Because they were stone dead broke! They had no money to give away to bribe people to vote for them- in 2014 they were flushed and again in 2018, and bought peoples voters card to avoid them voting.
These are the only reasons why the UPP lost those elections.
ABLP can never win an election on merit- they buy elections and peoples vote. Figure that out you imbeciles- I just used the word yesterday and one of you dumb minions already started to use it, lol

      • Imbecile is a word commonly used around here. You are giving yourself more credit than is due apparently. Plenty Antiguans bright. Where bribing is concerned, you can always report such matters with evidence to support the same to the authorities. In the absence of evidential proof, might as well STFU.
The UPP lost because they failed to govern and this goes even beyond economics. They failed because there was no leadership. Baldwin Spencer was disrespected and blatantly out of depth while those who are seemingly more educated created havoc through an elitist clique that included Harold Lovell and D Giselle Isaac. He had no control. The same people who caused UPP to fail are the same people at the top echelon of their party which is led by a failed politician.

        • @ Rastaman and chant Jordan

I repeat, the only way ABLP can ever win an election is by ‘buying out people’, either outward bribery with financial enticements or buying voters cards….you will never win on merit!!!
You guys had no money in 2004, it’s not me saying so, it was Asot who said you guys couldn’t get anyone to sponsor y’all campaign, so there was no opportunity to bribe….AND HENCE YOUR GENUINE LOSS.
YOU HAVE STOLEN ENOUGH OVER THE LAST 8/9 YEARS TO GUARANTEE A WIN, BUT THE VOTERS ARE WISING UP TO Y’ALL…….ELITIST? You guys come up with all sort of excuses….anyone more elitist than YOU GASTON BROWN…U DONT LIKE POOR PEOPLE, LIKE SAY YOU COME FRAM SOMEWAY

  4. Desperation knows no boundaries when it comes to these #UPPNEARGA and their quest for power. If the UPP was that great why were they kicked to the curb in 2014? Now the the “play book” if the go back 8 years to convince? Might as well I tell my boss how good I was in kindergarten to to given me a promotion now I am in my late 50s.

    • @ just saying: Have you heard of the concept of SANKOFA
It is an African word from the Akan tribe in Ghana that means ” in order to move forward, you have to know your history.

The UPP has built a remarkable foundation. When the manifesto comes out you will see how the UPP will build on this foundation.

People like you have questioned the stellar record of the UPP.
Well here you have it. In all its glory.
      Read and Digest.
It will do you good to learn the history of UPP ACHIEVENTS
      GOD BLESS YOU

    • They lost the election because a lot of Antiguans are like children. The labour government promised them to forgive their
utilities in arrears at a certain date and they didn’t comprehend arrears so they stopped paying their current bills until APUA starting disconnecting. Now a lot of UPP people fell for the bribe, even some teachers I know.

  5. These are the achievements that I remember:

These are some of the achievements that I can think of at the moment.

I will read the “UPP BOOK OF ACHIEVEMENTS” to get some more!

  6. People! People! People! What’s all the rage? Those achievements and accomplishments were there the last two elections. If one has to regurgitate these things to the people after such Stella performance and the citizens still elected the now administration, then one can only see the desperation of the party. IF and that is a “BIG IF” the UPP should by a miracle win the upcoming election does anyone think that the corruption will cease? It will be just another new deck of cards playing the same game and the prospective new players are taking notes to master the art of enrichment. When one examines the slates of the oppositions, ninety nine percent are all new comers with NO experience in governance and no one to guide them. Except for the Rhetoric politics of the PM Labour has always have much better POLICIES than any other political party and if anyone thinks that ENRICHMENT will cease if another government is formed then the Politicians have just conquered their goal.

    • All of the candidates including the PM in Grenada in the last election, ran for the first time. Never say never.

    • @ANRthis………
      Y R U eating up yourself?

      Calm your pressure man.

Take it easy- blood pressure 140/ 85? Be careful , lol. Don’t let the achievement get you down, lol

  7. What is the DNA’s take on this book of acheivements? werent their members part of the UPP during this period. Did they help make these acheivments come through? Why have they abondoned the UPP? why do they not have confidence in the current leadership? Why couldnt the UPP publish a manifesto and a detailed plan for the future instead?

I will take this book of acheivements as proof that the DNA will be able to acheive their vision 2040 which is a forward looking book available on their website.

    • How many members of the DNA were members of the DNA? Joanne Massiah was only a full Minister for a brief period. A few of them may have worked for the government but we’re never Ministers. How can DNA take credit? Flawed argument. Sorry non argument.

  8. a launch OVERSHADOWED BY OUSTING THEIR OWN CORTWRIGHT MARSHALL. SOMEONE ON THE INSIDE PURPOSELY LEAKED THE LETTER TO THE PUBLIC. Cold and Calculating move to wait until the same day as the launch to re-route attention to a Lovell problem.

    WHO LEAKED THE LETTER?

  9. Letter begins NICE NICE then Judas RAMMED the DAGGER STR8 into his heart

    “Dear Brother Marshall

Following a year in which several meetings were held with you, family members, members of your Branch and members of the community, one overwhelming concern has emerged: the effects of a rigorous political campaing on your physical health.

(Lovell do you have any HEART issues? do you have a CARDIOLOGIST on speed dial?)

I place on record your INSISTENCE THAT YOU ARE WELL ENOUGH to wage an in person constituency campaign and the WILLINGNESS OF SOME BRANCH MEMBERS to carry your message forward in your absence.”

    • @ Hmmmmmm

Teco wasn’t given the dagger? He objected in many ways than one.
The thing about you ABLP supporters is that you have no shame- the same thing you accuse the UPP of is the same thing you have done and worse, but you guys are just pure hypocrites, singing for your supper.
Panic is setting in? Your enrichment schemes will soon be history!!!

      • Read again – Teco was NOT PUBLICLY UNVEILED ON ANY OFFICIAL SLATE (unlike Cortwright)
no panic. LOVELL IS PANICKING. At the opportune time Cortwright will “CHECKMATE” loveLIE. Stay tuned.

If you believe Cortwright will “take it lying down” you and loveLIE are 2 useless clowns.

  10. Waiting for the ABLP response so we can do a comparison/contrast over the past ten years.
    Gaston, you are up.

  11. Freetownson your point is great. A comparison of the ALP accomplishments under Gaston Browne in his 8 years in power and 8 years of the UPP should be done to see which Administration accomplished more. We await the ALP publication of its accomplishments. It will be a most telling comparison.

    • They huffed the Five Islands Secondary school for a university. They got indigenous banks to take over the Canadian banks. They built some houses because it is one of the ways to thief. They ……
      What else did they do?

  12. A bunch of nincompoops you’re seeking a job and they ask you for your qualification and you going to present a paper in which you get failing grades and you were fired!

  13. I read the book and it was somewhat impressive. But, my thinking is that ALP helped develop tourism back in the day which helped the economy. But, tourism is past its peak now. We can’t keep expanding that sector. There is not enough water, land and other resources and services for that, and families will not thrive if everyone works in that sector alone. UPP cleaned up the way government was running to some extent and also introduced some useful social programmes. But we need more entrepreurship and other self-help options to be more focused on in the future. Both ALP and UPP suffered from corruption allegations. People get pisitions and then try to give all the government contracts to friends and family. We don’t want a competition between two sets of people to see whose friends get the chance to benefit this time. We want all opportunities to be advertised to the general public, board members etc. to recuse themselves from decisions when their friends are applicants, decisions to favour persons with the requisite experience or training and a good price so the taxpayers get value for money. Not sure either of those parties can currently be trusted to do what is in the best interests of ALL the people.
