UPP ENERGIZES ITS CAMPAIGN WITH THE FIRST “DRIVE IN RALLY”

A Safe Format to Engage Voters as the Cry for Relief Intensifies

Residents and citizens in Antigua and Barbuda continue to face severe hardships with the day-
to-day challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the cry for relief intensifies throughout the
length and breadth of Antigua and Barbuda, the United Progressive Party (UPP) continues to
find safe ways to engage voters, to listen to their issues and to present economic policies and
social programs to get the country back on track.
On Thursday January 13th, 2022 the UPP will launch its first “Drive in Rally” at the Old Road
Playing Field. A strict “no mingle policy” will be enforced, out of concern for the health and
safety of voters and candidates. This format will allow the Party to hit the campaign trail every

week and connect with the people to discuss the issues. It will also help to energize the Party’s
base and rally voters to seek the change in government that the country deserves.
Issues that are high on the Party’s agenda are: the lack of jobs, a worsening water crisis, the
high cost of COVID-19 testing, crumbling infrastructure, a failing education system and late
payment of pensioners. The dynamic line-up of speakers will comprise candidates and former
Party leaders:
– Harold Lovell, Political Leader
– Hon. Jamale Pringle, Deputy Political Leader and Member of Parliament for All Saints East
and St. Luke
– Dr. Baldwin Spencer, Former Prime Minister
– Chester Hughes, Deputy General Secretary of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union
(ABWU)
– Pearl Quinn-Williams, St. John’s Rural North
– Anthony Smith Jr. , All Saints West
– Corthwright Marshall, St. Mary’s South
– Sherfield Bowen, St. Phillip South
"This election is about making the next chapter of Antigua and Barbuda one that we can all be
proud of. The UPP is ready to lead this country out of this pandemic, revive the economy and
get our people back to work. We want to bring the pride back to our communities and to see our
people flourish and realize their full potential,” said Hon Jamale Pringle, Leader of the
Opposition.
“This type of event is critically important because there is so much despair in many
communities. The work we need to do is too important to just leave to chance. The UPP is
prepared to do whatever it takes to keep Antigua and Barbuda safe and to ensure that we come
out of the pandemic stronger than before. The UPP has always put the people first and we are
committed to getting people back on track and back to work,” said Harold Lovell, Political
Leader of the UPP.
Former Prime Minister, Dr. Baldwin Spencer will also help to fire up the Party’s base. “While the
ABLP is focused on enriching themselves, they continue to fail the people with empty promises.
We will ensure that voters get the message that the UPP is ready to govern and we must
motivate them to go to the polls to usher in change. The more our candidates make their
presence felt in all of the highways and byways across this country, voters of all ages and from
every walk of life will recognize that they are important and that their vote counts,” said Spencer.
The “Drive-in Rally” will be a weekly initiative hosted in various constituencies as the UPP
continues to monitor and manage the effects of the pandemic. The meetings will begin at 7:00
PM and will be broadcast on Progressive 103.7 FM, Observer Radio, ZDK Radio and via the
MYUPP Facebook Page.

    • Remember that the One Single Pringle said that the SOE/Curfew was to restrict the UPP from campaigning. Wonder if Wilmoth Daniel will pull up in “his” STRIPPER POLE BUS 🚌🤔

    • This is DUMB and OUTRAGEOUS. The PAGEANT just begun. Pearl Quin and Cleon will win first and second respectively. UPP AWFUL PEOPLE.

    • @ PHILLIP G
      WOW..This is serious
Not one seat for the OPPOSITION ???.If that is the case I think I will not vote. What polling method was used to arrive at this result?

  3. Serious question: Are there any links to all the main parties manifestoes (or what they stand for politically) in Antigua, so that I can study them and make an informed choice for the next elections? Much appreciated!

AN ANTIGUAN IN EXILE, BUT STILL ALLOWED TO VOTE …

    • They are a centre-right party, supposedly claiming to be somewhat “progressive”, but their phisophical basis is certainly not left oriented, and absolutely not democratic socialist by any stretch of the imagination. They left all of that behind years ago.

  4. IN THIS PANDEMIC ???? This shows that UPP does NOT care of the Citizens and Barbuda.. Rally in this PANDEMIC????

  5. UPP what are you saying ? We must vote for people that look like they are going to a white fete. YOU MUST BE JOKING GUYS !!!! WHAT A WASTE OF PRECIOUS TIME.

    • LOL white fete or blue jeans? which ministry will gladys potte manage with her one-shoulder outfit? She still scooping up icecream?
